Two great years of serving as United Way of the Ozarks Board Chair have given me even greater level of appreciation for our communities and what our volunteers and staff do to support our neighbors in need.

During 2018 — our 88th year as an organization — the board took a look at the future. We held focus groups, strategic planning meetings, and planned what the next five years would look like. What rose to the top of those meetings: Change is needed within United Way for us to be able to fundraise, impact and provide solutions for our community’s core needs. We know the world is changing. We know how people give is changing. We know our communities expect a positive return on their investment. We know we must adapt to meet these changing times and expectations. And we have started that process and are committed to carrying out the change that is required.

Our work continues into 2019 with planned visits to other United Ways to see what works and what doesn’t work. We will continue to ask area leaders and donors for insightful information about what role they would like to see United Way of the Ozarks play in our communities and what motivates them to support us. One thing we know for sure - United Way of the Ozarks is forging a path for the future so that we can continue to be a meaningful, positive force in our communities. It’s been a pleasure getting to guide the organization for the last two years. As I transition from the Board Chair, I know we are in good hands. These great leaders on the Board share a passion for United Way of the Ozarks and our communities that shows in all they do. Thank you for allowing me the pleasure to serve you and our communities.

By investing in programs that form a SAFETY NET for families experiencing challenges and focusing on EDUCATION to get upstream on reducing poverty. We are connecting communities, people, and hope.”

We are implementing the Coordinated Case Management and data collection system, Connect Springfield, to begin to measure results across our community. I am proud of the work we are doing and what we are accomplishing. But I never forget that there is so much more to do. We can’t rest, we can’t let up, the work is too important. There are too many children and families depending on us.

There are really no words to express my gratitude for your support. Thank you for allowing us to continue our work of changing lives and giving hope. Together.

Message from the Campaign Chair In 2018, we turned 88! So, we journeyed back to the past to celebrate

the 80s. It was a TOTALLY TUBULAR time, too. When United Way of the Ozarks was founded back in 1930 as The

Community Chest, the goal was eliminate duplication efforts among local charitable organizations. With the funds raised 88 years ago, The Community Chest, was able to assist 17 local agencies. We may be known as United Way of the Ozarks now, but the goal remains the same. Because of our generous donors, we are able to fund more than 40 programs across 22 agencies 88 years later.

It’s been an honor to go on this journey with you. Thank you for all your support. My one request:

We share a common goal with Community Partnership of the Ozarks – addressing critical, red flag issues and improving quality of life for everyone in our community. We work together, building upon each organization’s strengths and talents, while reducing duplication. We also share payroll, accounting, human resources, and employee benefits to help save dollars and leverage resources.

In 2018, we worked with Community Partnership of the Ozarks to implement one of the Impacting Poverty Commission’s key recommendations— development of a comprehensive, coordinated case-management and data-collection system that serves the under-resourced in our community. This three-year pilot is called Connect Springfield.
