communities, to support vulnerable groups and persons in distress.
Over the years, the Edelweiss Foundation has carried out a number of social projects, many of
which were implemented in orphanages and retirement homes. This kind of activities support
the disadvantaged layers of the society, but because of the current situation in the country there
is a large number of inquiries, and the Foundation, unfortunately, is not able to respond to all of

Programs and Basic Activities
“Where is their home?” Campaign
Period: July – October 2010
Objectives: Assist victims in the flood-hit region of Hincesti
Total direct beneficiaries: 56 pers.
In July 2010, PRIME TV broadcasting channel together with “Edelweiss” Foundation for the
Development of the Republic of Moldova launched a CAMPAIGN to offer assistance to the
victims from the floods affected regions with the name “Where is their home”. In the weeks
following the floods, the Foundation started procuring houses in the adjacent areas, unaffected
by floods, and started renovation works, thus in July of 2010 In accordance with the set
objectives, the Foundation’s Board decided to allocate funds for the acquisition of houses for
the most vulnerable families of flood victims.
The Foundation’s team put all their efforts for people not to feel neither abandoned, nor fed up
with empty promises. An overall aid worth 2 million lei was allocated to the victims of flood-hit
district of Hincesti, and within only two weeks from the disaster, tens of families received keys
from freshly renovated houses from the EDELWEISS Founder, Vlad Plahotniuc.
Moreover, each family received all the necessary for a decent life, including furniture, home
appliances, and farm land and animals.
The stories of several Edelweiss beneficiary femilies:
Boian Family Case, Sarateni v., Hincesti r.: „I found my home in the place I was born!”
Dorel and Olga Boian, 28 years old, together with their children: Roman, 7 years old, and Petrica,
2 years old along with Iulia Ababii, 80 years old are a strong and united family. When the water
flooded their house away, the Boians had no place to go and were left on the streets. Together
with their children and their grandmother Iulia, Dorel and Olga built their house in the village of
Sarateni, where they moved 4 years ago, after Olga inherited her parents’ house. They worked
hard, made repairs to the house, extended their household, settled in Sarateni and thought that
they would spend their lives and raise their children there.
When the Edelweiss team visited them for the first time, Olga Boian met them at the gate, which
was the only spot not covered by water. The house was flooded, as well as the garden, they
were able to save only their animals and a few items from the house. In their bottomless
despair, the Boian family submitted a request to the Edelweiss Foundation.
6 EDELWEISS Annual Report 2010-2011
At the inquiry of Boians, Board approved the acquisition of a
house in the village of Micauti, Straseni region.
After everything happened to them in Sarateni, the Boian family
wanted to start a new life in Miscauti village, Straseni region, the
village Dorel Boian was born in.
July 2010 – flooded house
August 2010 – Boian family’s new house
The day the Boians were handed their keys, Dorel’s relatives came
to welcome them to their new house, feeling extremely happy that
they will be neighbors and live together in the same village.
Dorel Boian: “I’m so happy to be back home, where I have my aunts
and sisters. I’ve started to believe the saying ” Every cloud has a
silver lining,”, God wanted to bring us back to the village where I
grew together with my dear ones, and the Edelweiss Foundation
helped us gain our confidence.”.
Mitru Family Case, Cotul Morii v, Hincesti r.: Flood victim family returns „home”
Before the floods, Mitru Family lived in Cotul Morii village of Hincesti region. Their home and
land was the pride and foundation of this family. The Mitrus had to work overseas in turns, in
Moscow, to earn some money for the house for renovation and furniture. All the money they
have earned during the last years was invested in house and land around it.
In the fall of 2009, the Mitrus finished the renovation of the house, a modern touch with PVC
windows and doors, with tile roofing, but unfortunately they had not been given much time to
enjoy the conveniences that they had made with so much dedication and effort.
In July 2010, their house, as well as the all the houses from Cotul Morii village, was completely
flooded and right after the flooding the family was temporarily placed at dormitory of
Professional College No. 8 from Hincesti region. That is where the Edelweiss team met them,
crying and desperate.
With tears in her eyes, Natalia, 33 and Anatol Mitru, 40, told the story about the household they
had built and which disappeared underwater in few moments. Their children were also hosted
with them in the dormitory, ten-year-old Veaceslav and six-year-old Vlad, along with their
grandmothers Nadejda and Eugenia, as well as Natalia’s sister, who is a single mother of nine-
year-old Tatiana and seven-year-old Daniela. They had called for help and received it from the
Edelweiss Foundation.
On July 17th 2010, during an official ceremony, Mr. Vlad Plahotniuc, Edelweiss Founder, handed
the family the key to their new home in Lapusna v., Hincesti r. “When I entered the house, it felt
like I returned home”, confessed Natalia Mitru, overwhelmed and with tears in her eyes.

Moreover, this spring they found out that their family will grow with another member and have already started planning re-arranging the house for the new baby.
The water came unexpectedly, and the Snegurs managed to save only a few personal things. After the floods, they were placed at the dormitory of the Professional College in Hincesti town. After the difficulties, fear and despair they went through, Valentina was several times hospitalized under the risk of miscarriage. August 2010
The Snegurs addressed for help to the Edelweiss Foundation, willing to move to any house, anywhere in Hincesti region. They have been dreaming of a new house, where they can feel like home again, and where they can provide a shelter for Alexandra, and the new baby coming into the world soon. “I feel very good in the new house. I am certain that we will adapt quickly to the community of Lapusna village. Finally I can breathe easier, knowing that my family has a roof and we can go through the winter away from the streets”, said Valentina, when receiving the keys to their new house, donated by Edelweiss Foundation.
