LPU is familiar with its duty of being an eminent part of a developing nation and since its inception; the university has been playing a pivotal role in preserving the culture of the country. The university has one of the most beautiful campuses in India which incorporates sustainable and safe departmental buildings, sports complex, auditoriums, markets and a mall along with lush green belts at every nook, safe and comfortable pathways for the pedestrians and roads for the smooth movement of the cars during the campus. Every year students from di�erent states of the country and countries of the world enrol into this university for pursuing various diploma and degree courses. LPU is home to enriched artwork galleries, departmental and central libraries and di�erent buildings with beautiful artwork e�ects such as sculptures, painting, installations and work of art. It may not be out of place to mention that the role of LPU in maintaining the heat balance of the entire area is poignant. The university has built and maintained the regulators of sustainable development and it has a committed framework of regulations, implementations and processes through which we extend this history to a wider community. LPU as a campus is the real re�ection of the commitment towards developing sustainable cities.

1. Introduction

LPU houses a large library totalling up to eleven discipline libraries to our academic network. In addition to the Central Library, the university has separate libraries for many Schools, and those libraries contain invaluable writings by authors from around the world, which are highly capable of meeting the educational requirements of the students and teachers. The university libraries give selective access to outside researchers and students. To make the resource available during pandemic, on-line access to e-resources was provided to the faculty and students.(https://www.lpu.in/academics/libraries.php) In addition, LPU provides access to hospital services, concerts, museums etc. University also provides free access to green �elds, playgrounds and open spaces inside the campus.

2. Academic InitiativesMaintenance of heat balance by LPU between Jalandhar City and Phagwara

LPU o�ers various programmes for the students at Diploma, Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral levels in Urban Planning and Architecture, making plans and layout through which we produce city planners and architects who enter the sphere of taskforce of the nation in shaping sustainable and e�cient systems. The faculty is well quali�ed to publish research articles based upon sustainability. LPU warmly welcomes the countrywide and international communities to its campus during festivals, symposiums, and other events. LPU ensures a visit for the public to the artwork galleries and departmental buildings, especially that of �ne Arts, which has a vast reservoir of major art works, and most importantly to its auditoriums which exhibit numerous cultural events throughout the year, acknowledging their cultural importance. These events provide an opportunity to public to visit the campus and witness our culturally treasured and artistically rich areas. In the future plan, LPU would like to utilize the existing brown�eld space to build new sites, if available. During COVID-19 pandemic, many events were hosted online to maintain the connection. a. Pedestrian friendly pathwaysLPU stocks the beauty and allure of its green campus liberally and a�ords public get entry to all of its gardens and open spaces through “Green Campus Guidelines”. Inside the university, separate pathways have been identi�ed for pedestrians. A scienti�c practice of visitor management by the security personnel and right signage gives precedence to pedestrians into the campus. Large numbers of students, teachers and other sta�s can travel safely to their hostels and departments every day.

b. Bicycle commutation in the campusFor city sustainability in LPU, Public Bicycle sharing for public transport was initated in Campus, which is non–motorized, non–polluting, environment friendly vehicle service. LPU shares Hexi bike–share model comprising of smart bikes with latest technology features and geo–fenced bicycle stations bsed on intelligent AI based redistribution mechanism, that helps place bikes where people need them the most, giving users a convenient, safe and low–cost ride since January, 2018. For this, LPU collaborated with 'Hero Cycles' for a unique 'bike sharing program' at the campus. The success of this collaboration has made, LPU to be declared as the country's �rst 'Bicycle Friendly University'. Near 600 bicycles have been made available to students at the beginning along with 15+ stands across the campus which is shared by near 4000 students per day. University is also contributing to make its students aware of pollution, unhealthy rides and tra�c congestion through 'Hexi–Bikes'. Hexi PBS systems today use automated systems of service, monitoring and tracking and Smart App Access for the students to the system. 4. Initiatives For Green Campus

The faculty utilizes the option to use public transport or shared vehicle pooling to reduce carbon foot print, contributing towards sustainable cities. University provides free bicycle, motorcycle, car parking facility to sta�, faculty and students along with any visitors from outside the Campus. To add into the sustainability, free University Shuttle service is provided to students/visitors from main gate to the centre of Campus.

c. E-rickshaws in the campusElectric mobility has changed with rapid developments in energy and charging systems. As a milestone towards low cost and eco–friendly transport, LPU has opted this mode of shared �xed route mobility for transport at reasonable prices. The e–rickshaw, in LPU, comprises of high quality vehicles with advanced electric system, a fast charging and long range as well as a tech–enabled platform which connects students and drivers and has an intelligent route planning mechanism developed by Deepak Dhayal, a B. Tech. Mechanical student of LPU, who deserves the credit for this. Initially the venture started with 2 e–rickshaws in late 2015 and today, there are nearly 24 e–rickshaws and approximately 10 golf karts running successfully, inside the campus, supporting to keep the campus environment friendly and pollution free. No emission vehicles, whereas average 4–Seater Diesel vehicle emits about 4.6 metric tons of CO2 per year. b. It leads to the decrease in the emission of Green House Gases. c. It does not contribute to acid rain. d. This helps in reducing expensive oil consumption.

The artwork and tradition are the most important pillars of historical past and legacy. LPU envisaged the signi�cance of most e�ective retaining and documenting the avenues of our rich artwork and cultural heritage which is showcased to the visitors to maintain them as memory of bygone days. There is a cultural society in the university where the students can join to learn the concepts, sculpture and paint arts. The artistic works of the university students are displayed on the wall which makes the university more beautiful and attractive. The University Theatre Club not only helps the students to participate and compete in university plays, dramas, mime etc. but also helps them to compete nationally and internationally. LPU has allocated budgetary �nance for the expenditure on development and maintenance of arts and heritage with the aid of 3 special mediums:1. With the aid of funding and organizing several activities in the course of the year that exhibit all our performing and visual arts. 2. Accurate unveiling of hidden talents among the students through various artistic pursuits.3. Encouraging a variety of research activities that play a special role in the preservation of culture.

5. Public Access

LPU provides a�ordable and quality residential facility not only for the students but also for the faculties and sta� members, as compared to local residence. Keeping their prerequisites in intellect, University o�ers quality rooms with higher facilities. LPU provides a number of bene�ts of staying in hostel.

6. Residential Facility

1. The residential students get after-hours guidance and suggestions from the residential faculties and sta�s. The residential students can engage themselves in part time jobs mainly in labs, library, sales, shopping mall etc. Lovely Professional University as a body follows the Government guidelines under National Building Code of India 2016 (NBC-2016) of Bureau of Indian Standard during designing and constructions of new and existing buildings.

2. LPU provides one of the safest campuses in the world to their resident sta�s and students. University has more than 400 security personnel along with its very own �re station department.

3. Highly secure campus with 7400+ CCTV cameras, trained security sta�, biometric turnstiles for accessing hostels, libraries and RFID enabled boom barriers for vehicular access. Also, the movement of the vehicles in the University is restricted to selected locations and is monitored every moment.

4. The campus has world-class amenities including residential facilities for around 24000 students & faculty, eating joints/cafeterias and other services like banks and ATMs, post-o�ce, saloons, transport facility, convenience stores, hospital, 8-storey shopping mall etc. Authenticated entry/exit through turnstiles/boom-barriers, over 7400 CCTVs and �re station with �re tender make this modern campus safe and secure.

5. The residential students, faculties and sta�s have the access to sports ground (both outdoor and indoor) that includes swimming pool, warm-up pool, shooting range, squash court, badminton court, volleyball court, basketball court etc. at 50% subsidized charges.

UN Water action decade India- The event was conducted by Student Organization UNYC under the aegis of Student Organization Cell, Division of Student Welfare, Lovely Professional University inside the campus. It was workshop that was conducted for 29 days in Lovely Professional University. The main aim of the event was to focus on water and promote sustainable development.

7. Campus Engagement Activities

Clean-a-thon- The event was conducted by Student Organization Paigaam under the aegis of Student Organization Cell, Division of Student Welfare, Lovely Professional University inside the campus to promote the hygiene and cleanliness of water. It was a university level event in which students from di�erent colleges and universities participated. The participants were made aware regarding the cleanliness and proper sanatization.

LPU, as an academic institution, acknowledges the need of building sustainable cities and communities and has recognized a number of principles and systems that serve this purpose. Regardless of the fact that LPU is always trying to �gure out ways to attain this SDG, it is consistently focusing on implementing targeted measures each year. LPU campus, with its world-class facilities and natural beauty, is a second home to students from all of the states in India and more than more than 43 countries, providing them with expertise, placements, and opportunity to experience and share their own arts and cultural heritage with their peers. The site is open to visitors, featuring libraries, gardens, as well as art gallery. Bicycles and battery-powered e-rickshaws make the environment more sustainable and beautiful within the university campus.

9. CONCLUSION

Following the vision of LPU with respect to SDGs aims to:• Make campus more environmentally friendly through necessary discussions with the local government, with net zero carbon footprint.• Encouragement in the preservation of the unique art and culture of the university and to give more importance to the local cultural features.• Promote the awareness among local communities to make lifestyle more sustainable.
