Dear Friend,Our annual report is filled with numbers — numbers that show Olive Crest’s impact, outcomes and

financial stewardship.

A significant number we achieved this past year is 100,000. In 2010, we set this number as our 10-year strategic

plan goal, doubling the number of children and families that we served in our first 40 years. While we can celebrate

accomplishing our goal 4 years early, sadly we wish the need for our growth did not exist.

My hope is that as you read through the following, you will be drawn to the number that is at the core of everything

we do…the number ONE.

Olive Crest is dedicated to preventing child abuse, to treating and educating at-risk children and to preserving the family… “ONE Life at a Time.”® Each time, ONE precious child’s life is transformed through the healing power of

a safe, loving home during a time of crisis. And the support and resources that make each

child’s transformation story possible come from the generous, faithful giving of

countless individual people. We are so grateful for the power that ONE can have.

With over 4 million child abuse reports annually across our country, Olive Crest’s

work is far from done. We hope you will join us in pausing to celebrate all that

was accomplished in 2016, and stand with us as we continue to break the

cycle of child abuse and enable at-risk youth and families to become healthy, productive citizens in our community.

Thank you,

Donald A. Verleur

CEO

OUR vision

OUR mission

A strong family for every child.

Olive Crest is dedicated to preventing child abuse, to treating and educating at-risk children, and to preserving the family . . . “One Life at a Time.”®

Susan came into Olive Crest’s care after she was found living in a shed behind her family’s house. She had been locked inside while her parents grew and sold marijuana. Tragically, little Susan had never attended school, didn’t know how to use utensils, and needed major dental work because of serious tooth decay. Susan went to live with an Olive Crest family, where she was welcomed into their home, given her own room and surrounded with the love she had never received. Her new family patiently nurtured her and cared for her physical and emotional needs, teaching her how to brush her teeth, use a fork and knife, make her new bed and connect with others. With the help of Olive Crest’s team, she learned how to trust her Olive Crest family, and learned that she belonged. What a difference a safe and loving home makes in transforming the life of a hurting child!

Little Andrew came to Olive Crest sad, scared and haunted by things a young boy should never experience or see. His mother suffered from mental illness and drug addiction and endured violent abuse from a string of live-in boyfriends. She could not provide the love and care that Andrew needed, nor could she protect him from the violence in their home. Olive Crest found a safe and loving family for Andrew; one who nurtured and encouraged him, drawing out his playfulness and love for sports and learning. As he began to feel safe and secure, his personality and love for life emerged. Eventually, Andrew was adopted into his forever family where he continues to thrive and heal from past hurts. Now, with the support of his new family, he is caught up in school, is energetic and making friends, and most importantly, is learning to trust that his family will love and protect him forever.

Lisa was a little girl who was told repeatedly how worthless she was, how things were her fault, and she was put down all the time. She spent most of her young life being moved to different homes in the child welfare system. When Lisa turned 18, she was no longer eligible for care under government programs, and found herself facing homelessness. Thankfully, because Lisa had been enrolled in Olive Crest’s independent living skills program, she had a strong support system to help her navigate adulthood and ensure her basic needs of safe housing, education and life skills training were met. She began to believe again that she was valuable and worthy of love. With the help of her mentor and a network of other caring individuals, she has an apartment of her own, is enrolled in college and her future is bright and full of promise.

Sam and David returned to their mom after spending time in a foster home. Their mom had struggled with drug addiction in the past, and was dealing with some very serious health problems. While she was well enough to welcome the brothers back into their home, they had a difficult time dealing with their mom’s illness, were skipping school, and had disciplinary problems that were spiraling out of control. With no family or outside support of family or friends, they were recommended to Olive Crest. A team of family crisis partners surrounded Sam, David and their mother to assist in transportation to hospital visits, spend time with the boys to help them process and feel more secure, and teach the family how to communicate and cope with the challenges they were facing. With the support and love from their Olive Crest team, this family gained the skills to stick together, work through their problems, and create a bond they never had before.
