“Let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”Galatians 6:9

Annual Report FY 14

Our Mission is…To serve God by providing professional and volunteer-driven family stability services and by building strong networks that support children’s safety and their physical, mental, social and spiritual growth.

Vital: something necessary or important; essential. Wouldn’t you agree that family stability is vital to the communities we live in? Building Families for Children (BFC) continues the long legacy of programs that promote this vital cause. We are ever so grateful to the founders of Baptist Family and Children’s Services whose value placed on the care of children within a family was strong and biblically rooted. With such a legacy to fuel us and new, innovative programs to propel us forward, my hope is that BFC becomes a vital community resource. This will be achieved by delivering integrated, relationship-based services in targeted geographical areas, and joining and building networks. Like the APGAR measurement of a new baby’s vital signs (Activity, Pulse, Grimace, Appearance and Respiration) we are measuring our programs’ vitality (Referrals, Community Engagement, Client Outcomes and Satisfaction). Recently one of our community stakeholders provided this testimony about our Safe Families for Children program:

“Knowing that Safe Families can provide their child with a safe place to stay relieves some of the stress that women feel when they are faced with a medical or other emergency that would take them away from their children...it is a service not offered by other organizations in the community. In my experiences with Safe Families I have found that it is not just an organization to place children but more importantly, it is like an extended family for our residents. Safe Families does not just provide a place to stay, it has provided a much needed ‘personable’ touch that these families don’t get enough of. Through Safe Families, these families are able to feel as significant and individual as all of us wish to feel.”

I am proud of the efforts made in 2014 by our dedicated staff, foster parents, donors and volunteers. As we strive to bring about family stability, we pray that God would bless our efforts and that our goals be His.

Trust me when I share with you, there is no greater reward than to be a part of an organization such as BFC – an organization where lives that might have seemed hopeless are rescued, turned around and given a new start. As a board member I get to hear the stories of how people’s lives are changed, of how children’s lives are brought to salvation both physically and spiritually through the help and assistance of competent case workers, dedicated fos-ter parents and committed volunteers who open their homes to kids whose families are in crisis. I am repeatedly humbled and literally brought to tears when I hear some of the stories but then, the good news is that there is rejoicing and praise for positive results. In order for our agency to continue its advancement forward in answer to God’s calling, we must have PASSION. That passion is evident in each trustee who serves on our board and it is also evident in each staff member, in our foster parents, in our Safe Family volunteers and in our office volunteers. We are passionate about:

• God’s requirement that we care for orphans and widows• The responsibility that we have to save children who by no choice of their own, find themselves in desperate circumstances• Doing all that God inspires us to do to support and help hold families together; offering services to those individuals and families who find themselves in crisis

This passion has been alive and well in 2014 and God has worked miracles among our families. I invite you to join us in fueling this passion in 2015 by praying for this work and by supporting our work as God leads.
