President’s Report

It is my pleasure to report on a successful year at Wyong Preschool as Committee President.

The committee members for 2019 were Tiffany Leonard, Brittany Day, Helen Wilson, Tarla Parata,

Jessica Cottee, Mel Smith, Sarah Schmidt and Rebecca Ley.

These ladies have worked tirelessly throughout the year to improve, support, and encourage the staff and

preschool in 2019.

I would like to thank our amazing Director Cheryl Irvine for her leadership and guidance throughout

2019. This year Cheryl has worked tirelessly before, during and after our A & R visit to ensure the

preschools premises, policies and procedures were at the highest standard. Well done Cheryl on leading

the team to receive “Exceeding” in all 7 quality areas through the Assessment and Rating process. Thank

you also to her husband Craig, for the many hours he puts in on weekends to ensure our preschool

premises are always safe and in good working order.

A big thank you to our Office Manager, Tracey Gorton. Her knowledge and proactive approach to

everything ensures the preschool is always running smoothly. Tracey puts her heart and soul into the

preschool and I am forever grateful for her guidance.

This year saw Kate Lowe take on the role of Educational leader. Kate did an amazing job transitioning

into this role and successfully led the team’s educational programs through the Assessment and Rating

process. I look forward to seeing Kate lead our team to further success.

We welcomed our new Certificate III trainee - Gemma Cox. Gemma has settled into the preschool

beautifully and has been a huge asset to the team. Welcome Gemma!

Our Educators are an amazing team, who all possess many skills and strengths. This is what makes our

team so successful. I would like to thank Trudy Casey, Alison Delaforce, Jodie Sutherland, Jenny

Waring, Debbie Sheridan, Robyn Pemberton, Pam Hudson, Kate Lowe, Irene Greentree, Lyndall Olson,

Annette Bartlett, Shaylie Mula, Carolyn Arnold, Sharon Barr and Gemma Cox for an amazing year. The

love and care bestowed on our children as well as the education provided is always evident and

appreciated.

Thank you to all our families for their contributions throughout the year, of time or monetary value. Our

fundraising activities were Family Fun Night $828-, Bunnings BBQ $1660-, Easter Raffle $351,

Mother/Father’s day stalls $211, Movie nights $488, Father’s day raffle $373 and Entertainment Book

sales commission $225. This was an amazing effort of fundraising from our families and committee

members. These funds helped us purchase a lot of educational resources for our centre as well as some

larger upgrades to our premises like our new artificial grass, the front playground deck and landscaping as

well as the children’s locker upgrade.

Thank you for supporting me in the role of President and for the friendships formed. I wish the

management committee every success for 2020.

Director’s Report

It is with great pleasure that I am able to present this report for 2019. We are very proud of our achievements this

year. 2019 saw us working hard towards our Assessment and Rating visit in August, which took place over a two

day period. This was a daunting experience with our policies, practices and procedures scrutinized by one assessor.

The assessment review continued over several months, as we continued to provide evidence of the preschools high

quality program. Eventually our hard work was rewarded with a rating of exceeding in all 7 quality areas. We

continue to reflect upon our practices and look for ways to improve through our Quality Improvement Program and

have made changes since the assessment review on the way we document evidence, so that it is more visible for an

assessor when they visit. I am so proud of our team, who worked together to ensure that our preschool is and

continues to provide a high quality service to the community.

I would like to extend a special thank you to Kate, who in her first year as Educational Leader, worked passionately

in ensuring our educational programs were of a very high standard. Kate has put a great deal of her time into

researching, reflecting and attending professional development days to increase her knowledge. Kate has

successfully led our team to grow and develop in documentation on Storypark through positive changes. Thank you

Kate for highlighting the preschools curriculum during the assessment visit.

Thank you to Tracey, our Office Manager who manages all the administration tasks within our preschool with

dedication, commitment and efficiency. Tracey goes above and beyond what is expected of her and is an amazing

support to myself, our educators, families and the committee.

I must again thank our dedicated educators who are all very passionate and enthusiastic early childhood

professionals. They work so hard to create a warm, rich and stimulating learning environment and high quality

program to give each child the opportunity to grow, learn and develop in order for them to reach their full potential.

A big thank you to our educators – Trudy, Alison, Jodie, Robyn, Jenny, Debbie, Kate, Pam, Irene, Lyndall,

Annette, Sharon, Carolyn, Shaylie, and Gemma. As early childhood professionals we continue to grow and build

on our knowledge through the many professional development opportunities made available to us.

The educators are passionate about building the skills of upcoming early childhood professionals. In 2019 the

preschool employed a Certificate 111 trainee, Gemma. Thank you to Jodie for mentoring Gemma throughout the

year. We welcomed a local TAFE student and University student who completed practicums at Wyong Preschool

during 2019.The preschool also hosted a student from Wyong High School with support needs every Monday, for

the entire year.

Thank you to the Management Committee of 2019 – Kerryn (President), Brittany (Vice President), Jessica

(Secretary), Tiffany (Treasurer), Tarla, Sarah, Mel, Helen, and Rebecca. Your continued support, expertise, input

and time has allowed the preschool to continue to operate as a high quality Early Education Service. For all those

committee members who will not be returning in 2020, we wish you all the best. A special thank you to Kerryn

who has been a member of the committee for five years, we are so grateful for her support during this time.

In addition, many other preschool families contributed to our preschool in other ways and I thank them sincerely.

This includes everything from donations, assisting with our Bunnings Barbecue, continually supporting our

fundraising ventures and sharing their knowledge and talents in our learning experiences. This collaboration

between families and staff really enriches our children’s lives and their learning.

This year has seen many building improvements. The plumbing was upgraded in the main playground to reduce

flooding, artificial grass was put down in our main playground and with the fire risk we experience over the

summer we had Gutter guard installed in our gutters around the entire premises. We also now have a native bee

hive in the back playground that should provide us with honey and will be a great source of learning for the

children. We received a $15,000 quality learning Environment grant from the Department of Education, which was

used to install a natural log obstacle course. The playgroup playground also received new decking, Australian bush

garden and Bush tucker garden. The preschool’s emergency procedures and equipment were reviewed and

improved by the installation of emergency exit lighting; evacuation plans and changing our assembly point to the

tennis courts.

Our playgroup continued to provide an important and beneficial service to the community. Thank you to Debbie

who took on the role of Playgroup Coordinator this year and for providing a welcoming and educational

environment for our playgroup families.

In 2019 educators built on their knowledge of aboriginal culture by forming a Reconciliation Action Plan Working

Group and being members of the KU Yarnin Circle and Koori Curriculum Yarnin Group. We also had an artist in

residence program, with Garry Purchase regularly visiting the preschool and providing Aboriginal art experiences

and cultural shows for the preschool staff and children.

The preschool continued its Speech Pathology Program, helping develop the language skills of children. Alison

Downey took on the role of the preschool’ Speech Pathologist in 2019 and has provided support to the families,

children and educators.

The preschool continued to build connections with our local community. The children visited the local post office,

attended a show at the Arthouse, engaged in The Woolworths Discovery Tour and attended the Aboriginal and

Torres Strait Islander’s Children’s Day at Baker Park. The children also now engage in spontaneous walkabouts

making these more meaningful experiences.

This year the preschool supported the local community through many fundraising activities. We raised funds to

help the farmers through the drought as well as collecting donations for Central Coast Drought Aid. Families

supported the Envision Hands Project through the donation of bottle lids and supported cancer research through

donations to the Cancer Council Stars of the Central Coast event. Thank you to our families and educators for

helping those in need within our community.

To enrich our educational program the preschool invited a variety of performers and services into our preschool.

The children enjoyed visits from; Wadjini, Jenny’s Multicultural show, Wyong High Dance and Didge group,

Christmas Pantomime, Remondis Recycling, Kaleidoscope Science, visits from the Fire Brigade and Police, as well

as Dinosaur, Rockpool, and Bug Shows. We celebrated the diversity of our preschool by inviting families to engage

in special events throughout the year such as Harmony day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and End of Year

Celebrations. We also provided health services to the families with vision and dental checks and treatment.

The preschool held a transition to school information night with the Department of Education Transition to School

Coordinator as guest speaker. We continued our strong connection with local schools by holding our School

Connections Meetings at the preschool. These meetings allow educators to have quality discussions with local

school teachers about School Transition Statements they have prepared for every child going to school the

following year.

Thank you to our life member’s and patroness’ who continue to be a very special part of Wyong preschool. We

thank them for their contributions and ongoing support and for the role they play as advocates for the preschool in

the wider community.

I would also like to thank the Department of Education who provides us with our annual operational funding,

licensing guidelines, Disability and Inclusion funding and for their ongoing support.
