Looking back

at 20142014 was an eventful year for the Women’s Bureau. We saw many clients come to the organization broken and hurting, and leave with a renewed enthusiasm to continue their journey of healing and rejoin the community, make a better life for their families and give back to others who are in a place where they once were.

In 2014, we planned and executed fun events: Night of Style in May, Dress for Success tent sale in June, and Walk a Mile in Her Shoes in September. The monies earned from these events went into maintaining and improving the quality and quantity of our programs.

Unfortunately, we lost two grants in 2014. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) changed their criteria for funding and decided not to fund programs like Transitions. While Transitions doesn’t deal directly with finding housing, it gives our clients the tools that enable them to stay in the housing. The Indiana Coalition Against Sexual Assault closed their doors and the Bureau lost a grant that was funding a counselor/advocate position in the northern counties. The combined loss of those two grants was $152,000. As you will see that took a toll on the bottom line of our 2014 income.

Even with a set back, we are happy to be gaining momentum in 2015 with finding new funding sources (earned and contributed) and continuing to reach out to empower women (as well as children and men) and transform their lives.
