Navjeevan Trust is a Public Charitable Trust thregistered (E/8927/Rajkot) on 27 November 1980
under the Bombay Public Trust Act, 1950. The Trust is registered under FCRA(No.042050002) and has obtained tax exemption under section 12A and 80G and 35AC of India Income Tax act. Navjeevan Trust is the Mother NGO of Rajkot District for RCH project of Government of India’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare . Navjeevan Trust is an active member of 21 committees such as District Health Society, Urban Health Society, PC-PNDT Block Advisory Committee, PC-PNDT District Advisory Committee, Steering Committee COTPA 2003 Act, RCH Programme Committee (Kiosk member), RMC Programme Committee – IDSP, District Programme Committee – IDSP, Executive District Vigilance, Executive Committee Member RSBY, Executive Committee Member of DRDA (Mission Mangalam), District Counseling Committee, Jan Swathya Abhiyan, Gujarat, Dai Sangatan Gujarat, Gujarat Disaster Management/ Preparedness Committee, District Child Protection Committee, District TB/ HIV Programme committee, NGO committee meeting, District Vector Born Disease committee, DAPCU Programme committee Rajkot and District Leprosy Programme Committee.

NavjeevanTrustmainlyfocuses topromoteandsustainthe
advancementsineducation,health,culture,livelihood,social,
and economic development of the downtrodden and
marginalized : mainly women , children HIV infected and
affected, orphans and semi orphans, youth, migrants,
disabled,marginalizedfarmers,SC,STandOBC.Itreachesout
to2075villagesof80blocksand185slums.Weworkthrough

organizations, 13 sister concerns, 513 staff members,
hundreds of volunteers andwellwishers. Navjeevan Trust
makes linkages/partnership with Local, National &
International NGOs, State and Central Go’s, Co-operative
sectors and individuals. It is directly involved in caliber
enhancementof staff,OperatingPartners (OPS),Formation
andstrengtheningofCommunityBasedOrganization(CBOs)
and volunteers. Also we provide platform for other

Consciously or unconsciously, everyone of us doesrendersomeserviceoranother.Ifwecultivatethehabitofdoingthisservicedeliberately,ourdesireforservicewillsteadilygrowstronger,anditwillmakenotonlyforour own happiness, but that of the world at large.-MahatmaGandhi
BythegraceofGodNavjeevanTrustiscompletingitsThirtyFouryearsofsel�lessservicetothepoorandthelessfortunate.
It is with delight that I present the Annual Report ofNavjeevanTrust for theyear2013-2014. Ithasanewlookandpresents information in accordancewith thepromisewemadelastyeartofocusmoreonsocialissuesandtoprovidenewlifetotheunfortunate.
ThejourneyofNavjeevanhasbeenquietaneventfulforthis year.We could reach out to quite a lot of people,especially poor and marginalized, through variousinitiativesimplementedbyNavjeevanitselfaswellasinpartnershipwithgovernmentandotherorganizations.Wehadmany innovativeprojectsandprogrammes,sothisyearwetriedtocarryoutthoseprogrammesmorepreciselywithstrategicplan.
Navjeevan members have been doing commendableworkintheareasofReproductive.
ChildHealth,ChildRightsProtection,BasicEducationforsocial Transformation, Children's Groups, Adolescentgirls Health, Employability Training to the ruralyo u t h , C ommun i t y b a s e d O r g a n i z a t i o n s o fYouth,Women,FarmersandWeavers,CBRofDifferently
abled etc.. I hope that this report demonstrates theprogress that the Navjeevan Trust has been makingduringthelastyearHowever;Ibelievethatwestillhavealongwaytogobeforewerest.
WetheNavjeevanfamilyalwaysopenourdoorstothepeopleirrespectiveoftheircaste,creed,classetc.Soweextend a hearty invitation to all those who want tocollaborateandsupportusinwhateverway.

Educationencompassesourlives;itisthefoundationofoursociety.Educationhelpstostimulateourmindsand mould inquisitive minds into intellectuals. BASIC EDUCATION FOR SOCIALTRANSFORMATION (BEST)
Basic Education for Social Transformation (BEST)programme is for the socially and economicallymarginalized children between the ages of 6 –14 years.Throughthisprogrammeweensurequalityeducationasperthe RTE Act, to empower children by involving them indecisionmakingforthemattersrelatedtotheirwelfareanddevelopment, providing opportunities to enhance theirskillsandtalentsandtransformingthemaschangeagentsofthesociety.

TUITION CLASSES
Weprovidevaluebasedandqualityeducationtochildren who come our Tuition centres. Atpresent we are running 21 tuition centres andproviding supplementary education to 683childrenbytheguidanceofquali�iedteachers.

Gungiwada is a small slum in Rajkot,whereNavjeevan Trust conducts tuitioncentreandBalmandals(Children'sclub).InthebalmandaltherewasaboynamedPravin,whowasnotatallregularinbalmandalaswellasintuitionclasses.Hisparentswerebadlytensedabouthim.
NavjeevanTrustorganizedSALTcamp(SelfAwarenessandLeadershipTraining)inGungiwada.Outofcompulsionbythesisters(J.JAshram)Pravinalsoattendedthiscamp. Dayslaterwenoticedslightchangesinhim.SincehebeganattendingtheSALTCamp,hebecameregularintuitionclassesandparticipatedactivelyinthebalmandalsprogramme.Astimepassedbytherewasadrasticchangeinhim.Hebecamecapableofcoordinatingthebalmandalchildren.Hehasreachedtoalevelthatheisnowabletotakeinitiativesindifferentprogrammesandactivitiesofthechildren'sclub.Pravin,onceadisorientedandirregularstudent,isnowteachinginourtuitioncentre.
This year with the help of NAVJEEVAN TRUST especially with the support ofFr.ThomasNadakklanhehastakenadmissioninChristCollege,RajkotandpursuesBsc studies.He is veryhappy forwhat he is nowand the opportunity that hereceivedthroughNavjeevanTrust.

Balwadies
Balwadies are one of the educational activities ofNavjeevan Trust,through which children get basicformation in their personality development at theirverytenderage.Wearerunning12Balwadies,throughwhichweformandeducate318children.
SANKALP
"Mobilizing Community to Increase Enrollment andRetention (MC - IER) of Girls in Secondary School"(Surendranagar), anewproject launchedinOctober2013. This is to raise awareness of adolescent girls,their parents and other communitymembers aboutthe economic and social returns to secondaryeducationforadolescentgirls,andstrengthenparentscommitment to secondary education for theirdaughters. It also aimed at providing parents withinformationandsupportinovercomingbarriersthatpreventmanyofthedaughtersfromcontinuingontosecondaryschoolandtoenhancecommunicationandinteraction between girls, their parents and theirteachers, using cell phone technology among othercommunicationmeans,toenablemoreaccountabilityforgirl’seducation.SupportingpartnersofthisprojectwerePopulationCouncil&CHETNA.

Gender inequalities in educationarea functionof genderdiscriminationand
patriarchalsocialandculturalstructures,whichexisteverywhereintheworld.
The degree of discrimination is even greater for indigenous women, gender
inequalityisdeeplyentwinedwithclassstrati�icationandishardtobring to
light.
ThefollowingisastoryaboutSujangadhvillageofSurendranagarDistrict.This
village has the practice of imparting higher education only to men which is
consideredtobetheirright.Thereforehighereducationremainsadistantdream
forwomeninthisvillage.Oneofthereasonsisthattherearenohighereducation
institutionsinthevillageandparentsdonotprefertheirdaughterstogooutof
thevillagetootherinstitutionsforhighereducation.
Inviewofpromotinghighereducationamongwomen,NavjeevanTrustlaunchedaprojectinthisarea;‘Mobilizing
CommunitytoIncreaseEnrollmentandRetention’(MC-IER)ofGirlsinSecondarySchooltopromotetheawareness
andneedofeducatingwomen.ThroughthisprojectNavjeevanTrustcontinuestotrainandorganizeawareness
programmesforthepeopletomakethemrealizeandaccepttheimportanceofhighereducationamongwomen.The
projectcouldbringmanifoldchangesinthevillagewithregardtotheeducationofgirlsandwomen.Oneofthevery
visibleandsurprisingresultsofthisprojectisthatrecentlymanygirlsareencouragedforhighereducationand
parentsarewillingtosendtheirdaughtersoutsidethevillageforeducation.SANKALPmadethedistantdreamof
highereducationpossibleforgirlsinthevillageofSujangadhwhichinturn
addedcolortotheirdreamsandlife.
Promotingprotectionandeducation

This project was implemented in 191 villages across three blocks
(Rajkot,Kotada Sangani, Padhari) of Rajkot districtwith the objective of
providing quality education to every child, formation of village level
infrastructures , conducting awareness programmes for the collective
action and making the vulnerable families aware of the government
schemes.Thisprojectwasof�iciallycompletedattheendofDecember2013.

NATIONAL CHILD LABOUR PROJECT SOCIETY
TwospecialschoolsaremanagedbyNavjeevanTrustunderGujaratstateChildProtectionsociety.Childrencometo
thisschoolintheagebetween9-14andwhodroppedtheirstudiestohelptheirfamily.Childrengetbasiceducation,
vocationaltraining,middaymeal,Healthcheck-upsandgovt.providedgrantofRs.150/-permonth.Atpresent49
students are coming toour special schools regularly andgettingbene�its.Alongwithprovidingeducationwe
conductedvariouscompetitionsandskilldevelopmentactivitiesforchildren.
NHCDP ( NAVJEEVAN HOLISTIC CHILD DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME)
NHCDPisanewconceptdevelopedbytheNavjeevanTrust.Itwasdesignedtodevelopintellectualskillofchildren,
toprovideplatformforinternationalstandardoflearningandtomaintainhealthinessofthechildrenfrom1stto12
std.Thisprogrammeincludedsummercamp&FreeLifeskillEducation,FormationofHealthclubandproviehealth
servicestothemembersandinternationalstandardoflearningthroughdifferentOlympidas.
� 220students from3 schoolsparticipated inOlimpiyad competitiveexamwith thepartnershipofEduheal
fdoundation.Outofthat16studentswerequali�iedfortheNationallevelexam.Wewereawardedwith30Gold
medals,11Silvermedals,12Bronzemedalsand8specialgifts.
SPONSORSHIP PROGRMME FOR SLUM CHILDREN
stTheprogrammeaimstosupport350poorandmarginalizedstudentsfromstd1 tocollege,residingintheslumsof
Rajkot.However, theygetopportunity toexcell in theiracademicsaswell as invarious skills and talents.This
programmeissupportedbyHOPEFoundation-Rajkot.

LIFE SKILL TRAINING FOR THE BOARDING STUDENTS
thLifeskilltrainingwasorganizedforthestudentsof10th thstd. residing in the boarding houses, on 14 & 15
DecemberatNavjeevan–AshaKiranTrainingcentre,
Rajkot. 106 students from 6 boarding houses
participatedinthetraining.Thethemesdealtinthe
trainingwereonSelfawareness,Decisionmakingand
problem solving . The concepts were made
understandabletothestudentsthroughgroupgames,
groupactivitiesandtheoreticalinputsessions.Asthe
part of training we also conducted boarding wise
groupdanceandskitcompetitionsandprizeswere
awardedtowinners.
ServiceofVolunteers
IlariaandChiara–TwoofthevolunteersofFondaziondAiutareibambini–Milan,Italy,visitedRajkotfrom2 -
st21 August,2013.Theobjectiveoftheirvisitwastobe
withtheboardingchildrenandgetinvolvedintheir
activities. They were accommodated in Premyog
Balashram-Gondal. They helped children in the
regular activities of the boarding house and the
childrenreallyenjoyedandcherishedtheirpresence.
Theyadjustedwithourcultureandwereallthetime
engagedintheboardingactivitieswiththechildren.
Wethankthemwholeheartedlyforadjustingwithall
the adversities. They also visited Vasavad boardingsthouseandspentadaywith them.On21 Aug. they
departedfromRajkot.
SAFE (SPONSOR A FUTURE IN EDUCATION)
The mainaimoftheprogrammeistoanticipateanew
generation that every child gets the maximum
educationandbuilddigni�iedlifeinfuture.Through
this programme we mainly supported the poorthchildren beginning from 8 std. In this reporting
period we supported 8 students to continue their
studies.

Eachpersonispreciousanduniqueandourvalueisrootedinthedignityofeach
and everyone as a human person. Navjeevan is extending its services to
enhancethedignityofpersonwithdisabilitiesbyprovidingassistancefortheir
excellent academic studies, medications, skill development trainings and
economic sustainability. From 2001 to 2014 Navjeevan could support 522
children&youngstersfromtheregionofSaurashtra&Kutchinpartnershipwith
CHAI-Li l iane Foundation. In this
reporting period we supported 90
children&youngstersforpursuingtheir
educationinschool,college,diploma,IT
level courses. 42 students from
BSNL(BacktoSafe&NormalLife)centre,
BhimaranamadelinkageswithLICandtookLifelongSurkshaScheme.
SCHOOL FOR INTELLECTUALLY IMPAIRED CHILDREN
Navshakti Vidyalaya provided special training to the childrenwith intellectual impairment, learning disability,
Autism,CerebralPalsy&Multipledisabilitiesfortheirintegraldevelopment.Atpresent117children(Academic–79,
Vocational–38)arecomingintheschoolregularly.WeprovidetraininginActivitiesofDailyLiving(ADL),pre-
academicbasics,arts/crafts,music,sports,computer,�ieldtrips,earlyinterventionprogramme,physiotherapyand
swimminginourwatertherapypool.Ourchildrentakespartindistrict,state,National&InternationalNationallevel
specialOlympicsandwongold&silvermedals.
WE BELIEVE IN PERFECTION —!!! AND WE PROVIDE !!!
NavshaktiVidhyalayaishavingawellestablishedvocationalunit.Childrenmakevarietyofof�ice�iles,candles,and
fancy/handicraftitemswiththeguidanceofstaff.Theytooproducethingsaspertheorderandevenparticipate
exhibitioncumsaleandmelastocontributetowardstheirearnings.

Bottling, Thobhani printing press and shop. All the owners motivated them for doing any work and earn by
themselves.Theyalsoagreedtogivejobintheirinstitution.

especiallythosethevictimsofthekillerearthquakeof2001.Atpresent496childrenarestudyinginthisschoolfromthkindergartento10 std.St.Mary’sschoolprovidesqualityeducationataffordablefeestolowincomefamilies.Along
withacademicteaching,childrengetlotofopportunitiestoinvolveinvariousextracurricularactivitiesfortheir

InpartnershipwithMinistryofHealthandFamilyWelfareNavjeevanTrustimplementedRCH(ReproductiveChild
Healht)programmeintheTemplevillageofMatelinnorthRajkot,wherematernalmortalitycasesareveryhigh,to
safeguardmotherhoodandreducetheincreasingmaternalmortality.Intheinitialphaseoftheprojectwefacedalot
ofdif�icultiesfromthetargetedarea(TemplevillageofMatelinnorthRajkot).TheRCHof�icialsfromtheirsurvey
found that one out of 80
pregnantwomen died in the
last four years. There are
systemicproblemaswell.The
localsubcentresmells likea
publicurinal andservesasa
mini dump yard for the
sugarcane vendors and
nearbyshops.
The anxiety of every family
aboutthepregnantwomenat
homeis,willthebabybealive
or will the mother survive
afterthedelivery?Thereasonwhytheyareanxiousisthattheydon’thaveanysafetymethodsandmeasuresneeded
for themotherand child.Taking intoaccount thegravityof thisproblemNavjeevanTrust inpartnershipwith
MinistryofHealthandFamilyWelfareimplementedRCHprogrammeinthisarea.NavjeevanTrustworksasamother
NGOtosafemotherhood.
Khimibenhadher�irstgirlchildinhermid20’s.Shewasnotawareoftheimportanceoftakingirontablets,checking
BPetc..ThroughtheRCHprogrammeshecametoknowabouttheimportanceofthesecuremeasuresshehastotake
duringherpregnancy.Sinceshewasawareofthesafetymethods,receivedthroughtheRCHprogramme,shepaid
attentiontoherhealthandpregnancyproblemsduringhersecondpregnancyperiodandgotahealthychild.

WomenlikeKhimiben,Radhaben,ManjubenofMatelvillageofWankanerblockbegantorealizetheimportanceof
safemotherhood.Theyarealsoprovidedwiththephonenumbersofambulanceservice(108),localjeepandvan
driverssothattheycanimmediatelygettheassistanceofvehicletoreachhospitalincaseofemergency.
Khimibensaid,“Iategreens,barjarotis,ironetc..Sothatmysuvavad(Delivery)wassafeandsecure”.Oneofthemain
resultsoftheprojectwasthatmostofthewomennowgofortheirdeliveryathospitalorcommunityhealthcentre.Thesafemotherhoodmeasureshelpedtoreducethematernalmortalityratesinthevillages.

NavjeevanTrustimplementsthreetargetinterventionprogrammesatShaper–veravalcityand24slumsofRajkot.
ThegoaloftheprojectistominimizetheprevalenceofHIVandotherSTIsamongtheMSM,FSWandMigrants.
Throughourinterventionwegive properunderstandingtothetargetedpopulationon STI/HIV/AIDSthrough
behaviorchangecommunication,referralservicestoICTC,earlydiagnosisandmanagementofSTIsandHIV.We
createafavourableenvironmentforaccesstocontrolpreventiveandtreatmentservicestostopreducethespreadof
STIsandHIV/AIDS.
REHABILITATION OF FSWS
WiththepartnershipofGujaratWomenEconomicDevelopmentCorporation,GovernmentofGujarat,Navjeevan
conducted13batchesoftailoringcourseand11batchesofmehandiDesiminsclassesfortheFSWswiththepurpose
of their social and economic rehabilitation and empowerment. Total 480 women completed training and got
certi�icates.

STEPS PROJECT ( STRENGTHENING TOBACCO CONTROL EFFORTS THROUGH INNOVATIVE PARTNERSHIPS AND STRATEGIES)
Toreducethehealthhazardscausedduetooverconsumption
ofTobaccowehavetrained 50SHGleaderstogiveonetoone
counselingtothetobaccousersintheirresidinglocality.They
have given one to one counseling services to 2000 tobacco
users toavoiduseoftobacco products.Asanimpact ofthis
services, 67peoplecompletelystoppedto useofthetobacco
products.
MEALS ON WHEELS
Weprovide one timemeal everyday to bedriddenpeople at
theirresidenceintheslumsofRajkot.Thisservicewasstarted
withfeeding30peoplenow40peoplearefeddaily.Thisservice
iscarriedoutwiththesupportofindividualdonations.
PovertyeradicationisoneofthethrustareasofNavjeevanTrust.Inordertoupliftthepeople�inanciallytomeettheir

giving special attention to women and children empowerment with focused efforts for the development of
SC(ScheduledCaste)andST(ScheduledTribe)communitiesintendingtostrengthentheirlivingstandards.
ThetrainingprogrammeincludedDriving,Computer,SpokenEnglish,Mobilerepairandtailoringforunemployed
youth.Allthesetrainingswereprovidedatthedoorstepofthetraineesintheirownvillages.Itwas conducted
ensuringtheirconvenienceandcompleteparticipationmakingsurethequalityofthetrainingprogrammethrough
routinemonitoring.Around600Youthweretrainedthroughthislivelihoodenhancementtrainingprogramme.All
thesetrainingswereconductedwithoutanykindofstipendsand�inancialsupportwhenundertraining.
There were two village information Centers (VIC) to increase the accessibility of the people to maximum of
government entitlements and schemes.Around 900 people have bene�ited from these VICs through various
entitlementsandschemes.

people about the deadly effects of consumption of tobacco through

Everyyear,thecollectorof�iceofRajkotorganizesthe5dayslok-
meladuring Janmashtami festival atRace course ground,Rajkot.
This year, the lok-mela was inaugurated on 26th August and
continuedtill30thAugust,2013.ThecollectorofRajkotpermitted
NavjeevanTrusttohaveonestalltocreateanawarenessofdifferent
activitiesundertakenbyNavjeevanTrust-Rajkot.NavjeevanTrust
tookthisopportunitytomobilizetheunskilledyouthforproviding
employability training. During these �ive days, 222 people
registered their names to join in different short term course.
Thousands of people visited the stall and got information
regardingcoursesrenderedbyNavjeevanTrust.

WORLD AIDS DAY 2013
WeobservedWorldAIDSDay2013basedontheUNtheme“ZERO
new HIV infections, ZERO AIDS related deaths and ZERO
discrimination” at Shapar – Veraval on 4th December, 2013. we
organizedHIV/AIDSawarenessrally approximately500children
and teachers were participated in it.we conducted cultural
programmes at Shapar-Veraval Industrial association Ground-
Rajkot. More then 700 Key Person’s participated in the cultural
event.Total210KP’sfromHRG(HighRiskGroup)and32TBSmear
positive patient tested their HIV status .Around 197 patients
bene�itedfromit.
