The Second College Day function of Ramco

Institute of Technology was celebrated in a grand

manner on 13.04.2015. Shri Lakshmi Narayanan,

Vice-Chairman, CTS was the Chief Guest. Shri

FRESHERS’ DAY:

Freshers’ Day Function was celebrated for the First

year students of academic year 2014-15 on

05.08.2014. Shri P.R.Ramasubrahmaneya Rajha,

Chairman, Governing Council, RIT presided over

the function. Shri P.R.Venketrama Raja, Vice-

Chairman, RIT, Dr.M.S.Ananth, Former Director,

IIT Madras, Dr.V.G.Dhanakumar, Director, Indian

Institute of Plantation Management (IIPM),

Bangalore, Dr.M.S.Palanichamy, Former Vice-

Chancellor, Tamilnadu Open University and

Dr.R.V.Mahendra Gowda, Principal, RIT were the

other dignitaries who shared the dais.

Dr.R.V.Mahendra Gowda gave the welcome

address. Dr.V.G.Dhanakumar, in his address,

congratulated the parents for selecting RIT as an

institution of choice for their wards. He spoke about

the values and ethics of the Ramco group.

Dr.M.S.Ananth, in his speech, wished that RIT

would be among the best institutions in the state. He

gave an overview of engineering education and its

components. He emphasised the fact that

engineering education is a cumulative process. He

asked the students to see the positive side of life and

have pleasant memories of the Institute.

Shri P.R.Venkatrama Raja, in his address, spoke

about his father’s vision of establishing a great

institution for learning which had become true with

the advent of RIT. He said that today’s students had

ample scope and all information was available on

the internet. He suggested that students take

additional certification courses like MIT-edX

courses which will help them work on challenging

assignments.

Shri.P.R.Ramasubrahmaneya Rajha, Chairman, in

his address highlighted the facilities provided by the

management like good faculty, infrastructure, etc.

He urged the students to make good use of these

excellent facilities provided to enhance their

knowledge. He asked the students to have good

character, become able engineers and earn a good

name in the society. He thanked the freshers’ for

choosing RIT.

Dr.M.S.Palanichamy spoke about the highly

qualified faculty, the infrastructure, discipline and

culture at RIT. He advised the students to be both

successful and happy in their study, career and life.

The Principal Dr.R.V.Mahendra Gowda delivered a

special lecture to the students and faculty of RIT.

Students took an oath to be future Engineers

possessing good knowledge and ethical values and

thereby be ardent followers of Sir M.Visvesvaraya.

NATIONAL SCIENCE DAY:

National Science Day was celebrated on 28th

of

February every year to mark the discovery of light

scattering by Dr.Chandrasekhara Venkat Raman.

Inaugural function of National Science Day with

the release of Book of Abstracts

The programme was inaugurated by

Shri.P.Chandrasekar Raja, MD/Rajalakshimi Pvt.

Ltd., Rajapalayam. Dr.S.Rajakarunakaran, Prof. &

Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering,

welcomed the gathering.Dr.R.V.Mahendra Gowda,

Principal, RIT, delivered the presidential address.

The inaugural function started with the release of

‘Book of Abstracts’ by the Chief Guest. The vote

of thanks was proposed by Dr. S. Kannan, Prof.&

Head, Department of Electrical and Electronics

Engineering.

As part of the celebration, events like Paper

Presentations in the domain of Science, Technology

and Mathematics, Aptitude Test in C Programming,

Mathematical Rangoli, Model Making, Drawing,

Mathematical Aptitude and Project Exhibition were

conducted.

The students, with the guidance of the faculty

members, enthusiastically involved themselves in

these events. About 120 science projects were

displayed by the students in the science exhibition.

It attracted the visitors from nearby schools and

Heads of other institutions from Ramco Group. The

The Technical Incubation Centre in the Department

of Electronics and Engineering was inaugurated on

July 07, 2014 by Dr.R.V.Mahendra Gowda,

intension of the TIC is to enhance the practical

knowledge of the students in various fields of

Electronics and Communication Engineering.

AIESEC-IIT Delhi and Tech Bharat Consulting Pvt.

Ltd., organized a two day national level workshop-

cum-championship on “Ethical Hacking and Cyber

Forensics” during July 24-25, 2014. 194 participants

from various colleges across the state participated in

the workshop.

was conducted on August 03, 2014 for faculty

members of Ramco Institute of Technology.

The purpose of the programme was to train the

“PCB Design”, handled by PG (M.Tech PED)

students of Kalasalingam University, Krishnankoil

on August 24, 2014 and September 07, 2014. The

workshop dealt with the theoretical aspects of PCB

and software used for PCB designing. Hands on

training on designing of PCB’s were also provided

to students. Students implemented small electronic

circuits using PCB hardware.

Technologies, Chennai, gave hands-on training

using Arduino. The programme gave an idea about

the functioning of electronics components and dealt

with embedded C programming using Arduino as a

controller with the applications of LED blinking,

control of robots using Bluetooth module,

7 segment LCD display, thermistor, Buzzer and

other simple applications.

The Department of ECE conducted a five day value

added course on “ARDUINO” in association with

M/s. One Yes Technologies, Chennai for the II year

ECE students on 04.12.2014. Mr.G.Jaisarathy and

Mr.S.Karthikeyan, One Yes Technologies gave a

detailed explanation about every component related

to Arduino Board and the installation procedure of

Proteus 7 IDE software. After the course, the

students were able to write the logic for different

programs to the Arduino board and test the output

for blinking LED, Buzzer and motor driver. They

also designed sample robots similar to line follower

with obstacle detection using two types of sensors

using Arduino board, sensors and servo motors etc.

with CADD Technologies, School of Design Private

Limited, Coimbatore, conducted an International

Certification Programme on AutoCAD during

December 12-20, 2014. Students were exposed to

topics such as designing and drafting, surfaces and

basic structure of buildings, the method of step-by-

step construction, Structural Analysis and

Construction Techniques.

The CSE Department organized value added course

Discussion Session

for II year CSE students on “Oracle Java” during

May 26-30, 2015. Mrs.Suganya, Oracle Certified

Programmer, Kalvi Institute, Madurai conducted the

session regarding core Java, features of JVM with

hands-on training.

The CSE Department organized a two day training

program on IBM worklight version-5 from May

22, 2015 to May 23, 2015 for 66 students of II year

CSE. Mr.K.Jegadeesh and Ms.R.Pavithra, Micro

Genesis Techsoft. Pvt.Ltd, were the resource

persons. Mr.Jegadeesh introduced IBM worklight as

an add-on to Eclipse IDE to develop Mobile App.

He gave an insight into how to develop and write

LOC which can be used across all platforms and all

devices like iOS, Android, and Windows. On the

second day, the students were trained to develop

mobile applications using an Emulator called

Android Virtual Device (AVD).

SPORTS ACTIVITIES

1. T.Kaleeswari, II year CSE, secured gold medal in

the senior female under 57kg weight category in the

Taekwondo championship held at P.R.M.Vasu

Nivas Thirumana Mandapam, Thiruvarur, during

August 02-03, 2014.

2. T.Kaleeswari, II year CSE, secured silver medal in

the senior female under 57kg weight category in the

Taekwondo championship held at Anna University,

Chennai, during March 16-17, 2015.

3. S.Pradeep Kumar, S.Balaji, II year Mech.,

participated in the Table Tennis Tournament

conducted by Anna University, Tirunelveli on

August 23, 2014.

4. M.Sivabalan of II year EEE, member of Table

Tennis Team (Zone XVIII) secured Third position

in the Anna University Zonal Tournaments for the

year 2014-2015, held at Regional Office Anna

University, Tirunelveli, during August 23-24, 2014.
