experts in their field, delivered their scripts at the end of 2017 and an independent body of experts reviewed them. Now we are pleased to introduce the first sections and to inform you about the way forward at our event. The Guide will be complet-ed in summer 2019.

As at previous events, we invited distinguished personalities from various sectors to speak to us about their business and challenges. We are sure their presentations and the interaction with them will inspire you. We thank the speakers for sup-porting our movement and becoming true ambas-sadors of AGES. Many activities of AGES would not be possible without our long-term partners EY Group and SOS Global, so I take this opportuni-ty to thank them, on behalf of all members and associate members, for their continuous support.

Last but not least, let me express my many thanks to our host, GL events. Olivier and François-Régis with his team have set a perfect stage for us in Lyon. I am sure you will discover the unique French touch during the event.

With a myriad of mega events in 2018 you are all certainly more than busy, so thank you for com-ing. Let me wish you a most enjoyable Annual Event, with fruitful talks and new encounters.

Daniel Cordey

Welcome

Daniel CordeyAGESChairman

Dear participants

This 4th Annual Event 2018 will again be a unique gathering of personalities and experts of the international event builder’s industry. On behalf of the board of AGES, I wish a warm welcome to our members, partners, associate members and to our speakers and guests from around the world. In particular, I welcome the new members and associate members who joined our association within the last year. With their product offering and specific capabilities, they add value and further enrich our event builder’s community.

2017 may have been a year of contradictions or uncertainties, paired with just a few mega events, yet it was a good year for our trade. With a growing economy in most market areas, more funds went into events providing a stable basis for our business. It was a good year for AGES, too. We developed the dialogues with govern-mental bodies and organisers and successfully arranged first workshops or sessions. Encouraged by the feedbacks, we will further develop the for-mat of such activities.

The highlight however, was the kick-off of the AGES Guide project, thanks to the financial sup-port we received from a majority of our mem-bers. The Guide will build a strong educational tool and assist event organizers, building author-ities and governmental bodies in dealing with our industry. The selected authors, being recognized

Welcome to our UNESCO World Heritage City of Lyon, and welcome to GL events!

We, at GL events along with those of us who have been dealing with events for long enough, have witnessed the profound evolution of our industry. This year our Group will celebrate the 40th anni-versary of its birth, close by what has now be-come our Matmut Gerland Stadium. Throughout those 40 years, the event industry has grown tre-mendously; it has also moved from the sidelines of the Marketing and Communication Divisions of major corporations, institutions, and event coun-tries to the heart of their strategies. When Proj-ect Managers would learn on the job, they now attend focused secondary educational programs and Masters. And when business owners or sales managers would knock on the doors of Organiz-ing Committees, one after the other, trying to negotiate somehow unbalanced contracts, they have now decided to get organized, and “hunt in pack”, thus creating AGES! As one of the leading players of the exhibitions and events markets, It is a great pleasure to be part of this Association, and to host its members, speakers, sponsors and guests, especially on this year of anniversary for us. But beyond the pleasure of spending some time together, we also must take advantage of all

this experience and brain power gathered for two days to prepare ourselves for the challenges ahead, and turn them into opportunities. New territories, new markets, newcomers, new norms, new rules on site, new ways of doing business. So let’s share all that together, in a convivial, friendly, and professional way, as we have done so for these past four editions. Let’s come up with fresh ideas, and proposals with the view to con-tinue to strengthen our industry and its suppliers, i.e. us. Again, AGES! Welcome to Lyon, welcome to GL events!

Keynote SpeakersThe Association of Global Event Suppliers is pleased to introduce the following industry experts (in alphabetical order) as keynote speakers for the AGES Conference.

Prof. Uwe R. Brückner

Scenography is a contemporary, multidisciplinary and holistic design disci-pline for architecture, exhibition design and art installations that make use of the dramatic structures of literature, theatre, opera, audio, drama and film. Good scenography creates spaces of poetic resistance and remember-able experiences. The different aspects of scenographic architecture and venues will be exemplified by featuring projects of ATELIER BRÜCKNER.

Prof. Uwe R. Brückner is architect, stage designer, scenogra-pher and curator, founder and creative director of the interna-tionally operating ATELIER BRÜCKNER (1997).

As a founding member of the Institute of Interior Design and Scenography at the Academy of Art and Design FHNW in Ba-sel (2001) he teaches as professor for exhibition design and scenography since 2003 and is co-responsible for the orien-tation of the content at the Institute for Interior design and scenography.

With more than 300 lectures, international lectureships, workshops and jury memberships in over 20 countries, he is renowned as internationally successful exhibition designer and sought-after expert for museum architecture, scenography and exhibition design. Following his design philosophy “form follows content”, Prof. Brückner focuses on the individual, content-generated design of spatial stagings and stands for a holistic, integrative, multidisciplinary, synaesthetic and con-tent-consistent design approach.

Architect, scenographer, creative director and founder of ATELIER BRÜCKNER

As a leading sports nation Hungary has developed a strategy of hosting ma-jor sports events in the future. The most successful 17th FINA World Cham-pionships in Budapest and the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic bid underline this ambition. Balázs will share the experience of last years‘ World Champi-onships and provide an insight about Hungary‘s event strategy.

He has steered city-de-fining projects that include Papp László Arena, Groupama Are-na (New Ferencváros Stadium), Ludovika Campus, the House of Fates, and the redesign and construction of Aquarium Music Centre and conference hall.

Current projects under the guidance of Mr. Fürjes include MOME Laboratory Campus at Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design, expansions to Ludovika Campus, the renovation

of Orczy Garden, the construction of Duna Aréna and the new 67,000-seater Ferenc Puskás Stadium.

Bill Hanway

The approach to major sporting events, especially the Olympic and Paralym-pic Games is evolving. A renewed emphasis on temporary venues and using innovative technology to reduce cost and environmental impact is becoming a key priority. Bill will present this approach in the developing design for the LA 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Bill is an Executive Vice President and the Global Sports Leader at AECOM, the global design, infrastructure and construction services firm. Trained as an architect, Bill’s work focuses on large scale regeneration projects, major sports events planning, and sports venue design. He works closely with politicians, civic leaders and key stakeholders to leverage the capital investment required to host a major sports event to both help regenerate areas of cities that are socio-eco-nomically challenged as well as delivering catalysts for future development.

He currently leads the AECOM team for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games and served as the Director of Venues and Infrastructure during the candidate city bid phase. Previously, he led the AECOM team that delivered the London 2012 Games and Legacy masterplan as well as the Rio 2016 Games and Legacy masterplan. Overlay and temporary buildings have become indispensable for host cities to secure a sound legacy plan, but aren‘t there other usages beyond large sports events? As the number of people within cities increases across the globe at a vast rate, temporary shelter and displaced communities take on a new importance. Perhaps the legacy of temporary event venues lies in new community centres, schools and other shared structures?

And Architects are a global architectural practice based in London, established in1998. The practice has delivered per-manent and temporary buildings including stadia, training facilities and sponsor pavilions for global events. During the London 2012 Olympic Games, And Architects helped deliver six temporary buildings, which included showcase pavilions for BP, Coca Cola, BMW, EDF and a temporary basketball training facility.

And Architects most recent and significant temporary building was the 12,000 seat Handball Arena for the 2016 Rio Olympic

Games which is to be dismantled and the component parts are to be reused to build four separate schools in Rio.

We believe that successful buildings are a product of partner-ship and strategic brief development that can have a sustain-able legacy. And Architects have received the International Olympic Committee IAKS Silver Medal Award 2017, the Inter-national Paralympic Committee IAKS Distinction 2017, Winner of AR MIPIM Future Sports Project Awards 2017.
