All services we provide are free. In the last 12 months, our volunteers have contributed over 39,000 hours on 14,750 separate instances driving almost 180,000 miles to clients in the towns of Chester,Danville, Derry, Hampstead, Londonderry, Sandown, and Windham. The estimated worth of these services is just under 1 Million Dollars. We are always looking for ways to increase staff effectiveness. In addition to a 2.5 hrs/week increase in our part-time Program Coordinator’s hours this year, we recruited a volunteer to take over her data entry responsibilities, saving her an additional 3.5 hours per week. Together, these small changes have made six more hours a week available for her to take on new clients and volunteers. I would like to express my gratitude and praise to Community Caregivers of Greater Derry for their impactful service to our community. I have been a volunteer for CCGD for almost 14 years. I choose to volunteer my time to CCGD because they improve the quality of life for so many local individuals by providing keystone services that are not available anywhere else. Bill and I were matched two years ago by Caregivers and have been seeing each other once a week since. I take Bill food shopping and on errands, as well as light cleaning and help with his computer issues. We also do special things beyond this such as: ~My family and Bill’s family get together a few times a year to decorate holiday cookies at his apartment. ~My husband and Bill share tools for woodworking and home improvements. ~Bill teaches my son about fishing and loans him fishing rods. My son ties lures for Bill when they’re too small for him to see. ~I drive Bill to the chiropractor where we both get adjusted. ~Our dog Louie also visits Bill occasionally. Louie loves the attention from Bill. Community Caregivers of Greater Derry has given my whole family so much through our volunteering experience as well as given Bill a better quality of life. Here are the quotes he wanted me to include in this letter: “My 3rd heart attack put me in a wheelchair and unable to drive myself and go anywhere. Caregivers has solved that problem.” “Thank you [CCGD] for making an old man have life again.” “If it wasn’t for CCGD and Samantha, I would be sitting in my chair watching TV and not getting around.” “All of my support comes from my children and Samantha.” Bill and I are proof that Community Caregivers of Greater Derry changes lives. Although our services are free to those we help, they are not without cost. As a small non-profit, we rely entirely on private funding. We do not receive insurance payments, Medicare or Medicaid reimbursement. Financial support of our organization is made up of donations from localindividuals, the towns we serve, community fundraising events, and a handful of grants from foundations.

We were awarded Non-profit Organization of the Year - 2019! Community Caregivers of Greater Derry was celebrated for its contribution to the community on October 3rd at the Annual Dinner of the Greater Derry-Londonderry Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber created a new category for this year’s event: “Non-profit Organization of the Year” and our agency was selected. Cindee Tanuma accepted the award on behalf of the 450 current volunteers, 16 Board members, 5 staff and 350 clients depending upon our assistance. It was an honor to accept this award in honor of the vulnerable population we serve as many times the elderly and disabled are an invisible population that do not speak up for them-selves The applause in the audience showed us that people do recognize the value of our caregiving program and Loaner’s Closet.

Major Gifts Program We will be starting a Major Gifts Program in 2020 established by a gift made in memory of Rick Flynn who passed away in May from Alzheimers Disease. He was a decade long volunteer, turned Board Treasurer, turned client that fully realized the value of our services. This Program will be a major new source of support for our organization and any gift over $1,000 will qualify. The more major gifts we have to launch the campaign, the more powerful the effect will be. We have also just redesigned our planned giving brochure. It can be seen at comcaregivers.org/donate-to-community-caregivers/ or call our executive director to receive a copy. All annual appeal contributors will receive a copy with their thank you letter in the new year.

Last year, the Loaner’s Closet loaned out 2,693 pieces of durable medical equipment and gave away over 900 cases of medical consumables (adult diapers, nutritional drinks, etc.) In addition, we have 9,662 items, borrowed in previous years, still out on loan helping NH & MA residents live safer and more independent lives.

Equipment loans from The Loaner’s Closet have grown from 1,071 in 2012 to 2,693 in 2018, more than doubling in six years. The tremendous growth in equipment loans testifies to both the need for the service and the success of our model in meeting the need. The Loaner’s Closet is staffed daily from 9 to 3. Some days it takes all five staff, pitching in, to help all the people coming in to borrow or return items. The Loaner’s Closet is acommunity-based solution, made possible only through the generosity of our equipment donors and financial supporters. With a budget of just $40,000 per year, it’s a low-cost program with a high-level impact.

Many of you reading identify more with the Loaner’s Closet for Durable Medical Equipment than the volunteer caregiving program. The Loaner’s Closet was started because we saw the need among the low-income elderly and disabled individuals we serve for common items that they could not afford. And by virtue of the work we do with the elderly and disabled, we werefrequently offered used medical equipment by former clients and their families when that equipment was no longer needed. From this simple concept, a much-needed program was born.

Planned Giving

In an effort to make giving as easy as possible we have set up both a text-to-donate feature and online giving platform at https://secure.givelively.org/donate/community-caregivers-of-greater-derry. It includessuggested impact amounts, one-time or monthly gift features, ACH direct deposit options and more.
