August 2017 1 of 2
Overview
This document details background information on the College Board's annual Advanced Placement (AP)*
Course Audit, including specifics regarding the use of an online provider and how schools navigate the
College Board's AP Course Audit site to receive authorization with an Apex Learning Virtual School AP
course.
About the Annual AP Course Audit
"Schools develop their own curriculum for courses labeled 'AP.' The AP Course Audit, however, specifies
a set of expectations established by college and university faculty for college-level AP courses. Courses
that meet or exceed these expectations will be authorized to use the 'AP' designation."

How to Add Online Courses Taught by ALVS Teachers to Your College Board Profile
"To list online or distance learning AP courses as part of your school's official AP offerings each academic
year, your school will be able to select the authorized online or distance learning courses offered to your
students through the AP Course Audit Web site. These courses will then be included in your school's
profile in the ledger of authorized AP courses made available annually in November."

"Through the AP Course Audit Web site, AP Course Audit administrators are able to select the authorized
online/distance learning courses your school offers to its students each academic year. To do so, AP
Course Audit administrators should sign in to the AP Course Audit Web site, navigate to the 'Add Online
or Distance Learning Course' page, and select the authorized courses your school offers. These AP
courses will then be included with your school's other authorized courses in the AP course ledger."

How to Add Online Courses Taught by District Teachers to Your College Board Profile
The College Board requires that if a school wants its school name to appear on the College Board's list of
approved AP courses then that school must submit the courses they are using to the AP Course Audit for
approval, even if they are using courses such as those from Apex Learning that have already been
approved.
To do so, AP teachers should sign in to the AP Course Audit Web site, navigate to the ‘Add New Course’
page, and ‘Claim Identical’ when asked for the course syllabus. When taking the ‘Claim Identical’ option,
schools using Apex Learning AP courses must submit the Apex Learning syllabus number listed below
and an identical copy of the College Board approved syllabus. The College Board approved syllabi can
be obtained by contacting Apex Learning Support at [email protected].
