SSB Newsletter | August 2019 | No 6 August 2019 | No 6 Social Protection Conference The International Conference on Resilient Social Protection for an Inclusive Future is being organised by the National Planning Commission, Government of Nepal, and Social Science Baha in collaboration with the ILO, GIZ, UN ESCAP, The World Bank, UNICEF and UKAid in Kathmandu. The Conference will focus specifically on social security allowances/cash transfers, and include other themes, such as child and family benefits, productive inclusion programmes, shock- responsive social protection, and programmes reaching minority and disadvantaged groups, such as disability grants. Apart from several new articles, it will include some articles that have been published before as is and some in a revised form. His dissertation, ‘Ethnicity, Political Parties and Voter’s Alignments: A Case Study of the Democratic Elections of Nepal aer 1990’, tries to answer whether political party or ethnicity, or both, influence voters’ alignments in Nepal. The research indicates that ethnic movements aer the 1990s have led to the institutionalisation of ethnic issues in mainstream politics and increased ethnic politics, changing the candidacy patterns among the major political parties of Nepal.
