On This Day in History1820 – Captain Nathaniel Palmer became the first American to see the continent of Antarctica.1883 – The U.S. and Canada adopted a system of standard time zones. 1903 – The U.S. and Panama signed a treaty granting the U.S. rights to build the Panama Canal.1928 – The first successful sound-synchronized animated cartoon premiered in New York. It was Walt Disney’s “Steamboat Willie” starring Mickey Mouse.

Crayola ColorCycleGrissom Patriots are collecting used markers and

highlighters (any brand) to be converted into clean fuel. This fuel can be used to power vehicles, heat

homes, cook meals and more! Green collection boxes will be in each classroom and on the bench outside

the Commons. The program can keep tons of plastic out of landfills each year. Remember, don’t throw out

that used marker – ColorCycle it!

Cheer/Dance TeamFlyers for the Cheer/Dance Team are available in the rack outside the Main Office. The Clinic will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 10th and tryouts will be on Wednesday, Dec. 11th. All forms are

due by Wednesday, Dec. 4th. NO LATE FORMS WILL BE ACCEPTED!

Ronald McDonald House CharitiesGrissom is once again collecting pop tabs to benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities! The pop tabs are recycled and sold for scrap metal. Last year, Ronald McDonald House

Charities of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana raised more than $40,000 from this program. There is a collection box on the bench outside

the Commons for your donations.

Student SupportBefore and after school Student

Support is offered from 8:00-8:35 am each morning, and from 3:10-

4:05 pm Monday through Thursday. You must arrive at the beginning of the session and stay for the whole

time!

Water Bottle Filling Station Challenge

Last year, Grissom Patriots saved 14,316 plastic water bottles from ending up in landfills by using the

water bottle filling stations located throughout the building. So are this year, we have saved 6,650 plastic bottles from the

landfills!
