GENERAL OBJECTIVE COMMUNICATION OBJECTIVE
Pinpointing the relative contribution to air quality of pollution sources in the 5
project harbour areas: - identifying differences/similarities among them -designing future scenarios.
1
Develop and share a common methodology for monitoring and modelling air quality in harbour areas.
Inform about the monitoring and modelling phases.
2
Inform about the results of the monitoring and modelling campaign (conclusions - results) - definition of scenarios
Strengthen, through the use of spatial planning tools, the governance capacity across coastal areas to arbitrate between conflicting socio-economic
& environmental interests by including the air-pollution analysis and the scenarios within the already existing Sectorial Plans (like the Territorial
Regional Coordination Plans, Plans for Environmental Recovery, Strategic Development Plans of Ports, Regional Transports Plan and so on), with the
final aim of supporting the strategic choices of Regions, provinces and ports
in terms of sustainable and integrated coast management.
3
Spread the project results capillary in each areas and to the different
stakeholders categories (in particular to the institutional actors in order that
the same result will be included in their territorial planning tools)
Facilitate and promote voluntary agreements between local administration,
port authorities, ship owners & cargos’ handlers (like differentiated dues, kilometres charge, blue flag & tradable emission permits) that can concretely
contribute – in the medium term - at curbing emissions and improve the environmental balance of the coastal communities without affecting the
economic growth potential of harbours districts.
4
Create and feed a local network, using the APICE website as container of good practices in the air quality management.
