2. The structure of the “Applying for a Job” module

The “Applying for a Job” module contains six sections, six tests and a final test. You will learn and practise essential language used in the different stages of applying for a job.

Section 1: Describing jobs

In this section you will learn

useful vocabulary to describe different jobs, responsibilities and requirements. Then do Speaking Tutorial 1.

Test 1

This section tests what you have studied in section 1, “Describing jobs”. You will receive a mark out of 10 for this test which will contribute to your final assessment.

Section 2: A CV and cover letter

In this section you will study useful language, and practise writing an email cover letter. Then do Writing Tutorial 1.

Test 2

This section tests what you have studied in section 2, “A CV and cover letter”. You will receive a mark out of 10 for this test which will contribute to your final assessment.

Section 3: Arranging an interview

In this section you will practise a job training interview. Then do Writing Tutorial 2.

Test 3

This section tests what you have studied in section 3, “Arranging an interview”. You will receive a mark out of 10 for this test which will contribute to your final assessment.

Section 4: Preparing for an interview

In this section you will practise talking about work experience and the recent past.

Test 4

This section tests what you have studied in section 4, “Preparing for an interview”. You will receive a mark out of 10 for this test which will contribute to your final assessment.

Section 5: During the interview

In this section you will practise answering interview questions. Then do Speaking Tutorial 2.

Test 5

This section tests what you have studied in section 5, “During the interview”. You will receive a mark out of 10 for this test which will contribute to your final assessment.

Section 6: Job advertisements

In this section you practise describing positions and job requirements. You will also find a summary of language practised in the module in the Language Review tab.

Test 6

This section tests what you have studied in section 6, “Job advertisements”. You will receive a mark out of 10 for this test which will contribute to your final assessment.

Final test

The final test contains four sections that test what you have learnt in the module. This test is marked out of 40 and contributes to your final assessment.

Each unit also contains speech recognition exercises. These are often in the PRONUNCIATION and TAKEAWAY ENGLISH sections of the unit. There are different types of exercises. They practise sounds, words, sentences and your fluency when you read aloud.

4. The role of the tutor

All Net Languages tutors are experienced teachers of English who help you throughout the course. The tutor will:

· send written comments, corrections and marks for the two writing tutorials

· have two speaking tutorials with you and send you written feedback and a mark

· answer any questions you might have about the course

· motivate and encourage you throughout the course
