President’s Message……….
Hi Hoppers, The summer has flown by and a new dance season is starting in earnest as the leaves start to turn red and gold. The exciting MOB Squad is behind us, our first dance is Saturday, a new class of students starts Monday and the Winthrop Festival is just over a week away. Our first national caller will be here on October 1 along with a mystery caravan. Our club will celebrate the 60th anniversary of it's founding with a special dance on April 15th with Dan Preedy and Karen Neverdowski. I look forward to another successful dance season, dancing to some great callers and cuers, and enjoying the company of a fun group of Happy Hoppers! See you in a square soon! Rod

All Mob Squad 2016 Participants:
First, I'd like to thank each and every one of you for making the effort to sign-up, to plan, to practice,
and (most-important) to actually show-up and participate in what I believe is the largest square-dance-themed flash-mob ever assembled!
Well over 500 participants were there. Over 60 clubs from all across WA (and even northern OR) were represented in the total. There's NO DOUBT we've set the standard by which other square
dance flash mobs will, initially at least, be measured.
There's were lots of cell-phone videos taken from a variety of sources, and it will take a while to come up with a compilation that best represents the many sites and scenes we'd like to share. I'm
attaching a link of the best one I've seen so-far (I believe Letrisha Hatch captured it) to give you glimpse of what it looked like from a "spectator" point of view. I posted it up on the Swingnuts
YouTube channel (because I can), but there will be plenty more I'm sure before we're all done.
"Cheers" (3 Cheers....it's Over!) Everybody,
Lane Johnston - Mob Squad Organizer

Joe Saltel calling. There will be a “Mystery Caravan”

Happy Hopper Summer Picnic At the Tree Farm
Saturday July 30
Tina’s grandson Abe was the trophy winner of the “veggie” races!!!
Eating, sharing with our friends and members are the best memories….Hoppers love to eat!!!
Page 8, HCubed September 2016
Games, cards, and square dancing in the Dance Hall……………so much fun!! Thank you Frank and Jean
for sharing the Tree Farm with us again this summer…..
Winthrop Red Barn Dance September 23 & 24~~~~You can still attend
the Winthrop Festival even if it is too late register so your presence will be
counted so we don’t get the “boot” again. Last year there were three clubs
that had thirteen members in attendance but not everyone registered ahead
of time. So we got the old boot for the second year in a row.
For those of you attending the Winthrop Barn Dance, we called to check and yes, we can have a campfire on
Saturday night following the dance. Eric will be tending the fire as Frank & Jean won’t be able to attend this
year. We’ll be in site 8 at the KOA (Frank & Jean’s usual spot) and welcome all our Hoppers and friends to join
us. Feel free to bring snacks and your favorite beverage and chairs (if you have room; we have a few extra
chairs).
Eric and Cindy
For additional info to attend the dance call: 509-979-2607 or 509-270-9264 Email: [email protected]

Fall Happy Hopper lessons begin Monday, Sept. 19 and
go for 16 Mondays (except no class Dec 26, Jan 2 and
Jan 16). Graduation is Jan 23. Lessons are held at the Totem Middle School Cafeteria in
Marysville (1605 7th St. NE) from 7:00 – 9:00 pm on
Mondays. Instructor is Scott Coon.
First lesson is free. Thereafter, cost is $6 per lesson for
adults (16 & older); $3 per lesson for ages 8 – 15 when
accompanied by a registered adult. Students can save
by pre-paying for the series during the second lesson:
$75 (instead of $90) for adults and $37.50 (instead of
$45) for ages 8 – 15.
Attire is casual for lessons. No partner required.
Several experienced dancers (i.e., “angels”) are
available at lessons to help the instructor and new dancers. Dancing is in sessions with brief
breaks. Water will be available in class.
Goal of the lessons is to have fun and learn the basic square dance moves associated with
modern Mainstream Square Dance. Web links are available to help students review square
dance moves of they desire or if they miss a lesson (www.videosquaredancelessons.com).
Several student dances are held at the various square dance clubs in the area throughout the
season so students can gain additional practice if they desire.
Angels are appreciated and are free if they are members of any Mt. Baker Council square
dance club.

Also – 4 “Mainstream Strengthening” Square Dance Workshops will be taught by Steve
Noseck (Jan 30, Feb 6, 13 and 27) – cost is $6 per person for everyone (recent graduates and
angels). Let’s be sure to invite our friends from other clubs to join us so we can all improve
our dancing skills!

separately with other of your outfits) with lace overlays and an overskirt silver with a navy
lace overlay. This will be on a first come first serve basis so please call her with your request
and discuss it with her including the cost. Call Marlys at 425-353-4235.
