about the designer:
anmage combines European style with Palestinian embroidery (tatreez) hand crafted by refugee women in Jordan. Providing work and fair pay for women in need as well as raising awareness for the political situation were major objectives of German designer Antonia Maria Gefahrt when founding the label in 2OO9.
The designer and activist frequently travels to the Middle East and the trouble shaken occupied Palestinian territories attending demonstrationsand taking part in human rights activities. Her observations and experiences during these trips influenced her work: The often blurred, even reversed semiotics of aggressor and defender, means of protection or assault gave the impetus to the cooperation with London based fine artist InzajeanoLatif. His photographic work for anmage explores the discrepancies of media representation and the situation on the ground telling a story ofresistance, despair and ultimately (dreams) of freedom...
<< In the media we see angry youths with covered faces throwing stones, and we cannot help thinking of terrorism. The situation on the groundhowever, shows an entirely different picture: The stones suddenly seem ridiculously harmless against the tanks, machine guns and modern military equipage of the IDF (Israel Defence Forces). You see people being shot at and sometimes severely injured by tear gas cartridges and rubber coated bullets. Casualties are not isolated cases during what is intended to be a peaceful protest. When you see what‘s going on, you are either afraid or you get furious and are tempted to throw stones yourself, not because you are foolish enough to believe this could be an effective assault, but simply to vent your anger. You instinctively pull your scarf over nose and mouth in order to minimise the effect of the tear gas unintentionally ending up looking like a terrorist; this is what I mean by reversed semiotics of aggressor and defender. >> Antonia Gefahrt

<< I have always been immersed in the visual language but only came to photography about five years ago when I decided that fashion wasn‘t enoughto captivate me. I enrolled on a photography degree and haven’t ever looked back.
Photography opened up a brave new world, a world where I was able to express myself in ways where writing could not.
I definitely class myself as a portrait photographer who engages with people that often live on the fringes of society. I examine and explore how people interact in their environments. The work I produce leaves room for the viewer to impart a little of themselves within each of my photographs, bringing them closer to a world that would otherwise be unknown. >> Inzajeano Latif
about the collection:
The designer‘s affinity for Middle Eastern culture is omnipresent: floating silhouettes are borrowed from traditional thobs (kaftans), rich embellishmentsremind of the abundant decorativeness of the East and yet the garments are reminiscent of a simultaneously minimalist approach innate to Westerndesign.
Spring-summer 2014 is a colourful and predominantly optimistic collection with bright embroideries and fluorescent accents. Bold, black geometric shapes and kufiya patterns are placed seemingly naturally among pastel florals and delicate silky textures. The conflict-laden symbols of Palestinian resistance are thus deprived of their menacing connotations inviting to question widespread perceptions and notions ...
