    • Click on the Toon Boom Studio icon on the taskbar

    • Name the file “Drawing Practice”• Select Create

    • The Toon Boom Studio default workspace opens

    • The Menu bar runs along the top of the workspace

    • The Quick Access toolbar is under the Menu bar• It provides access to some commonly used

    functions

    • The Toolbar is positioned vertically along the left side of the workspace

    • There are three groups of tools• Each group performs a specific set

    of tasks• We will be working with the top

    group of tools

    • Click on the arrow next to the second tool, which lookslike a paintbrush• A window opens containing several drawing and shape tools

    • Select the Rectangle tool

    • The Rectangle icon appears on the tool bar, highlighted blue• The Rectangle tool is now active

    • Place the cursor inside the box outlined in black and filled with a grid

    • This area represents the frame• Only objects inside the frame are visible when the

    animations plays• Click your left mouse button and drag diagonally to create

    a rectangle

    • Use the Select tool to edit the rectangle• Click on the arrow next to the top tool to open the window• Click on the first tool, the Select tool

    • The rectangle must be selected in order for it to be edited• Position the cursor outside a corner of the rectangle• Click and drag outside the opposite corner• A BOUNDING BOX is placed in the rectangle

    • An ANCHOR POINT is located on each corner and at the midpoint of each side of the rectangle

    • Drag an anchor point to edit the width or length of the rectangle

    • Press the Shift key and drag a corner anchor point to increase or decrease the scale of the rectangle while constraining its proportions

    • Place the cursor on the outline of the rectangle• Click and drag to move the rectangle in the frame• Press CTRL + S to save the file

    • The panels at the right side of the workspace control various functions

    • The Pen tool controls the weight, or thickness, of lines

    • Select the rectangle • Drag the Maximum Size slider to edit the line

    weight of the rectangle

    • The Colour Palette contains colors that can be applied to an object in Toon Boom

    • Select the rectangle • Click on a color

    • The Paint tool can fill an object with a color • Click on the third tool on the Toolbar• Select Paint from the window

    • Select a color in the Colour Palette• Click inside the rectangle

    • Select the rectangle

    • Move the rectangle to top of frame• Reduce size of rectangle• Line up anchor points with center verticle grid line

    • Draw a new rectangle centered below the first rectangle

    • Select the Paint tool• Select a color• Fill the new rectangle

    • Select a color in the Colour Palette• Click on the green plus sign• A new color appears at the bottom of the Colour Palette

    • Double-click on the name of the color• Enter a new name

    • Press CTRL + C to copy the circles• Press CTRL + V to paste the copy• Use the Select tool to move the circles
