A top-down perspective of the breach in an earthen berm separating an inundated wetland (right of photo) from an area intended to be moist but not inundated (left of photo). Whether a result of a remnant field tile or a persistent burrowing animal, these vulnerabilities can begin as small/isolated, but they can lead to significant water losses and with time, broader instability.

Page 3: Animal_Damage

A top-down perspective of the water upwelling on the backside of an earthen berm compromised by animal infestation. Burrowing animals (e.g. muskrat, nutria, beaver, groundhog, etc.) feed and find shelter on earthen berms, dams, and shorelines. AquaBlok® will not prevent these animals from digging elsewhere, but its unique attributes offer a simple repair.

Manual addition of AquaBlok® from a 50-lb. bag. Because each particle consists of a stone aggregate core wrapped in sodium bentonite, the combination offers structural stability coupled with the robust swell and seal of the naturally-occurring clay. There is no need for manual compaction, and unlike concrete, it will not shrink or crack with extended exposure to water.

GPS recording of the AquaBlok® plug location for long-term monitoring and maintenance. Five bags (250-lbs) of the product made for a simple and fast “wheel barrow” repair, as compared to the traditional alternative (which often includes a mini-excavator, extensive digging, and compaction of resident clay – if/when proper materials can be sourced).

Active hydration of AquaBlok® (250-lbs total) several weeks following the placement of product into an animal burrow. This particular fix took a matter of minutes, once the source of the seepage was identified.

A comparable perspective to PHOTO 2 approximately 20 minutes after the placement of the AquaBlok® demonstrating the lack of upwelling (i.e. water loss) into the adjacent moist wetland unit.
