How did this era begin?
It begin with the Anglo-Saxons coming to Britain and started converting everybody to Christians from Saint Augustine and not everybody was okay with that. Which caused empires from there to take action with a war.
Who were the Anglo-Saxons?
They were known as mercenaries, the Anglo-Saxons first came to England in the 4th century A.D. when they began invading the east coast. The most important of the Anglo-Saxon Germanic tribes were the Angeles, the Saxons and Jutes.
Where did they settle?
The Anglo-Saxons settled in Saint Augustine, Britain in 597.
When did this take place?1. The Roman armies withdrew from Britain early in the fifth century because they were needed back home to defend the crumbling centre of the Empire. Britain was considered a far-flung outpost of little value. At this time, the Jutes and the Frisians from Denmark were also settling in the British Isles, but the Anglo-Saxon settlers were effectively their own masters in a new land and they did little to keep the legacy of the Romans alive. They replaced the Roman stone buildings with their own wooden ones, and spoke their own language, which gave rise to the English spoken today. The Anglo-Saxons also brought their own religious beliefs, but the arrival of Saint Augustine in 597 converted most of the country to Christianity.
2. The Anglo-Saxon period lasted from 410-1066 after the fall of the Roman Empire
Role of men and womenMen were the main role of the Anglo-Saxon society. They were looked at as the leaders of there society. They represented strength and wisdom of their household. Their main role was to provide for their family. Unlike men women were seen as the "peace weavers", motivators, and memory keepers. These roles don't seem like much, but they were an important part of the Anglo-Saxon culture. One of the roles of the women were peace weavers, they married off to make peace between warring tribes. Even though women played their role as the "peace weaver" war still broke out. Women were also motivators that would inspire men in the mead hall. They would praise the men in there doings at war. It encouraged the men in the battle field.
