Intended to be the centerpiece of the ten year University of Technology City Campus Master Plan in downtown Sydney, the 14 story, 16,000 square meter Dr. Chau Chak Wing Building provides teaching,
Much of my work focused on the development of the undulating brick facade, including the construction of a full scale mock-up. I worked independently to produce a variety of design development drawings including glazing details and building sections and elevations, while likewise maintaining joint responsibility for all design models at a full range of scales.

This invited competition called for the creation of a new home for the National Art Museum of China to be located on the Olympic Green in Beijing. My efforts involved producing models, from initial massing to
schematic sections and plans as well as diagrams demonstrating
the building appears as a cloud of white marble, a material rooted in historic Chinese architecture, and aims to equal the visual impact of the nearby iconic Bird’s Nest.

Dedicated to preserving the maritime history of the region, the Museum of Monterey required a new display infrastructure for two small galleries. The design features movable, free-standing display cases, an accompanying display wall, as well as a series of pods suspended from the ceiling. I worked closely with Venice, California based Ilan Dei Studio to develop key details for the fabrication of the display cases. These cases were designed using multiple compounding angles to give the perception of movement as visitors walk through the galleries. I also worked independently to produce plan and section drawings, as well as concept renderings.

Vitous Residence
An existing home, a one story, single family residence in Mar Vista, California, was renovated to add an additional story to both the main house and the detached garage. The original two bedroom house was therefore converted into a four bedroom house along with a rec room above the garage. Likewise, two roof decks were added providing much needed outdoor living space on a residential street with very tight lots. The use of multiple cladding materials enabled the elevations to be read as a series of discrete parts. I developed drawing sets issued for approval and managed the permitting process.

While many residential projects include recreational facilities as an amenity, this lifestyle development adopts athletic activity as a generative architectural idea. The gym program is compressed along the building’s most public facade and is suspended along a series of ramps. The residential units are designed to accommodate two athletic lifestyles: the Spartan unit provides the bare necessities for the on-the-go athlete requring a pit stop rather than a large living space, while the Trojan unit is for the athlete wanting the amenities of the gym but with more space for shared living and entertaining. Both unit types accommodate the athlete by providing a transition from gym life to home life. This occurs via a ‘locker room’ entry where the athlete can store their gear, clean up and refuel before entering the main living spaces.

This studio sought to speculate on the organizational potential of building mass and silhouette when these are determined by sheet logics rather than solid logics. Using clothing construction techniques as a point of departure, a variety of operations were performed on small fabric swatches to create and manipulate architectural form. Sheet prototypes were then aggregated at the scale of the site in order to develop a formal proposal for a new museum that would house the Broad Art Collection at the corner of Santa Monica and Wilshire Boulevards. In order to inhabit the complex forms yielded by the fabric prototypes, a separate circulation system was developed. This continuous ribbon enables a variety of spatial experiences based on its changing relationship to the exterior shell.
