KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS Christmas Poster Contest

Congratulations to Fourth Grader Audra (top poster) and First Grader Alaina (lower poster) Engelhart, winners of the Knights of Columbus Christmas poster contest.

Family Consecration This weekend, as we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Family, the Knights of Columbus are leading a consecration of individuals and families to the Holy Fam-ily of Jesus, Mary and Joseph at all Holy Masses. They are providing prayer cards in the pews. As we approach the Feast of Epiphany, the Knights are encouraging all families to offer gifts to Jesus, through prayer fasting and other special offerings, to help each other grow in holiness.

    STEWARDSHIP OF TREASURE

Stewardship Reflection for December 29, 2019 - The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph

“Wives, be subordinate to your husbands…Husbands, love your wives…Children, obey your parents in every-thing…Fathers, do not provoke your children.” (Colossians 3:18-21)

Pope Francis said that families, through their life of prayer and love, become "schools of true human growth." Being credible witnesses of Christian love, especially that of family members, exerts the most positive influence on our children. We are all children of God, let us pray and love each other as God, Our Father, does for us. 2019 Contributions to Immaculate Heart of Mary

Our annual statements of parish contributions for 2019 will be mailed to all parish households in Janu-ary. All contributions received by the parish (or if mailed, must be postmarked) by December 31, 2019. Anything received (or postmarked) after January 1, 2020 will be recorded as a 2020 donation. Thank you for your generosity in sharing your gifts of financial stewardship to help IHM carry out the mission en-trusted to us by Jesus. Annual IRA Distributions

If you are in your 70s, consider a gift to our parish from your IRA. Avoid taxes on a transfer of up to $100,000 from your IRA directly to IHM. Satisfy your required minimum distribution (RMD) for the year. Reduce your taxable income, even if you do not item-ize deductions. For more information, contact Bernie Heit at the parish office (221-1521, ext. 310)

Epiphany House Blessing—January 5, 2020 There is an ancient custom among Christians to do a house blessing on Epiphany, recalling the visit of the Magi. It is done on the 12th day of Christmas. The 12th day of Christmas is January 6; however, Epiphany is celebrated on the Sunday after the Feast of the Holy Family. This year we will celebrate the Epiphany of the Lord on January 5.

The custom of blessing homes on this day seems to be linked to the Gospel: “and on entering the house they saw the child with Mary, his mother. They pros-trated themselves and did Him homage.” Mt. 2:11a, b

As part of the blessing, the initials of the traditional names of the Magi: Gaspar (or Caspar), Melchior, and Balthasar, are inscribed and connected with crosses in white chalk on the inside door frame. The numer-als of the current year serve as bookends. This year you would write: 20+G+M+B+20

***Blessed chalk will be available next weekend in the narthex of the church.

TRADITIONAL HOME BLESSING (Gather your family at your front door)

OPENING PRAYER: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came to be through Him, and without Him nothing came to be.” ~John 1:1-3a

“And the Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us, and we saw His glory, the glory as of the Father's only Son, full of grace and truth.” ~John 1:14

PRAY: May God bless all those who enter and leave this house.

Make the Sign of the Cross with holy water on the doorway. Write the following in chalk on the lintel (header) of the door frame: 20+G+M+B+20

PARISH NOTES St. Gianna's Hour for Moms

Our book study for Moms continues to gather Thurs-day’s at 9:30 a.m. in the Church Meeting Room. Chil-dren are welcome! Please call/text Anastasia at (608) 358-0677 or Jenny at (920) 475-6930 with any ques-tions. We will NOT be meeting on January 2, and will resume getting together on January 9. The First Friday Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus The Sacred Heart of Jesus is an image of the great love Jesus has for us. The First Friday devotion is a special devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The entire purpose of this devotion is to draw us clos-er to the heart of Christ and the divine love that burns for each of us.

Fr. Chad, Ivonne Blahnik and the IHM Ministry to the Homebound are dedicated to bringing Jesus in the Sacrament of Holy Communion on First Fridays to those who are sick or homebound, and are unable to come to church. This will take place on January 3. If you or someone you know would like to receive Holy Communion on First Fridays, or if you are interested in becoming a Communion Minister to the Home-bound, please contact Ivonne Blahnik, Pastoral Care Coordinator at 608-221-1521, ext. 302, or [email protected].

    Winter Cold and Flu Season

It is important during flu and virus season not to spread “the bug” at church. If you have been ill, please refrain from shaking hands at the Sign of Peace. Please note that if you are running a fever or have a contagious illness, you are not

required to attend Holy Mass. However, you are en-couraged to watch a televised Mass, offer prayers or read the Sunday readings. Please use discretion when it comes to sickness. A simple cold is not a reason to miss Mass, but taking measures not to spread your cold is appreciated.

IHM Memorial Day Backyard Bash Parish Festival It is the time of year when we begin planning and look-ing ahead to our Memorial Day parish festival. This year we are facing a dilemma. Many of our long-time volun-teers are no longer able to continue the work that goes into preparing and organizing this annual event. We are in need of new people to provide the leadership and support to keep our Backyard Bash a fun and successful community event and fundraiser for our parish. Below is a list of our needs: 1. Event Chairperson (or Co-chairs) 2. Raffle Chairperson/s 3. White Elephant Sale Coordinator 4. Food and Beer Tent chairs 5. Entertainment Coordinator If you feel God is calling you to become involved within our parish, please pray about and consider involvement in our Memorial Day festival. We have a great team of volunteers who do a wonderful job, but they need help. If you are interested or would like to know more, contact Kathy Marshall at the parish office: 608-221-1521 or [email protected]. Thank you!
