Proposed Rule 14-1b

Anchoring the Club.

In making a stroke, the player must not anchor the club, either “directly” or by use of an “anchor point”.

•Note 1: The club is anchored “directly” when the player intentionally holds the club or a gripping hand in contact with any part of his body, except that the player may hold the club or a gripping hand against a hand or forearm.

•Note 2: An “anchor point” exists when the player intentionally holds a forearm in contact with any part of his body to establish a gripping hand as a stable point around which the other hand may swing the club.

PERMITTED STROKES

PERMITTED: Traditional grip with standard-length putter.

PERMITTED: Claw grip with standard-length putter.

PERMITTED: The player is not anchoring because neither the club, the hands nor the forearms are directly in contact with the body.

PERMITTED: Traditional grip with mid-length putter.

PERMITTED: With this long putter, the player is not anchoring because neither the club, the hands nor the forearms are directly in contact with the body. 8

PERMITTED: Cross-handed grip with standard-length putter.

PERMITTED: The Rule allows for the club to be in contact with the forearm during the stroke.

PERMITTED: The Rule allows the gripping hand to be in contact with the forearm during the stroke.

PROHIBITED STROKES

PROHIBITED: The club is intentionally anchored against the player’s body.

PROHIBITED: The club is intentionally in contact with the player’s body.

PROHIBITED: The player’s gripping hand is intentionally held against the body.

PROHIBITED: The player is intentionally holding his forearm against his body in order to establish an anchor point.
