60 Years
T he Sarasota-Manatee Council held its 10th annual Vice Admiral Earl
Fowler Memorial golf tournament on November 11. The tournament was won by Sector St. Pete who not only won the Coast Guard Challenge and its trophy but the entire tournament as well. As usual we had a great Chinese auction and silent auction. We had very generous sponsors who made this a great success led by Jim MacDougal who donated $5000. The

…from the Council President
The holiday season will have passed by the time you receive this issue of Anchor Line
and Nel and I wish all the best to you and yours in 2016. We had another hugely successful golf tournament in November at the Heritage Oaks Golf & Country Club in Sarasota on November 11th. CONGRATULATIONS and thanks to all who helped make this another success. The weather was great, some folks played some exceptional golf, and prizes were awarded to the top three foursomes. The tournament this year was won outright by the foursome from Commander, Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg, who, as a result, also took home the Coast Guard Challenge Trophy. Two other foursomes represented the Coast Guard, one each from Station Cortez and the cutter Resolute. Unfortunately, the team from the cutter Crocodile was not able to compete again this year, as they were deployed. Golf was followed by a terrific dinner, aChinese auction and a silent auction, chaired by Nel Rocklein, and I think it’s safe to say that everyone had a great time. Please remember in 2016, when we’re looking to conduct the 11th Annual Tournament, that
these events are our main fund-raiser each year and raise the revenue we need to do our charitable work. Thank you to all who made this event such a success, especially Jerry St. Germain, who was invaluable for his corporate memory and his relentless pursuit of door-prize donations! At our December 2nd member business meeting held at the Sarasota Yacht Club, the membership elected the officers and boardmembers for 2016. We welcome Jeannine Rusch as our new Secretary; “Chief” Woodie Brewer as an addition to this year’s board, and the return of Al Burda. 2015 has been a very good year for our council and we look forward to even greater successes in 2016. At our January 27th (BKYC) dinner meeting our speaker will be Commander Dan O’Shea, a counter-terrorism expert and board member of the Brian Bill Foundation. February 25 we’ll host a joint meeting with the Propeller Club of Port Manatee at the Sara Bay Country Club and the Port Director, Mr. Carlos Buqueras, will be our speaker. I hope to see you there!

Naval Sea Cadet Corps News – Maritime Eagles
The Maritime Eagles have been busy this Fall presenting the colors at the Manatee School for the Arts (MSA),
marching in the Palmetto Veterans Day Parade as well as volunteering for the annual Wreaths Across America where 10,000 wreaths were placed at each of our fallen at the Sarasota National Cemetery. We also had the opportunity to attend the world’s largest modeling, simulation and training conference, I/ITSEC 2015, where some of our cadets were able to see some of the latest technology our military is training with. We look forward to a robust Winter as we continue to represent our community.
