President’s Message It’s hard to believe that 2018 is slipping away quite quickly now and that by the time you read this Thanksgiving celebrations with family and friends, and the turkey dinner will be a (hopefully) lovely memory. Of course, on the horizon is Halloween and hard on its heels – Christmas! I don’t know about anyone else but fall seems to bring with it a renewed energy for all things sewing and quilting. On the other hand, preparations for the holiday season seem to consume mega amounts of time. And so, it is important to stay focused and set aside time for all of these things. Setting aside as little as 20 minutes a day will result in projects completed rather than UFOs and PIGS (projects in grocery sacks)! Programme

We are excited this month to welcome Joyce

O’Connell, Quilt Artist and Teacher from Courtice,

Ontario. Joyce is a National & International Award

-Winning Quilt Artist who has a broad knowledge

of both traditional and innovative quilting designs

and techniques. Her work has been exhibited in

Canada, the United States and England. She will

be presenting her “That was then, this is now”

trunk show, showcasing her journey in quilting,

explaining the progress from a complete beginner

with traditional quilting to developing her Bargello

designs, and then into Art Quilts and

Competitions. She will also expand on several

processes of the Bargello technique, how it

evolves, and explain color selection and

placement.

Reminder, we need 2-4 white glove ladies to help

our guest speakers showcase their beautiful

quilts. The sign-up sheet is at the membership

table at every meeting.

Jane & I would appreciate any feedback on our speakers, so if you have comments/suggestions, please send them to [email protected] or [email protected]. If you have heard of a great speaker, please send us their contact information as we plan for the next 2 years. Leslie Drake & Jane Waye

Block of the Month

Instructions for the next phase of Block of the Month will be handed out at October’s

meeting. I have talked to several of the ladies who signed up for block of the month and

they are all working feverishly to get their flying geese done so that they can move onto

the second phase. The next phase is just as easy as the first just a few more steps.

If you cannot pick up your next hand out perhaps you can have a guild friend pick it up for

you.

Look forward to talking with you at the meeting.

Comfort Quilts Hello Ladies,

We are off to another good start for the Ancaster Quilter's Guild Comfort Quilts program. I'm

sure you all agree it was a pleasure to receive a personal thank-you from Hamilton Police

Services. We were able to donate 16 quilts to them at the September meeting from the

guild. Thank-you all for your continued efforts to help our outreach program. Please come by

and visit us at our table. We'll have quilt kits, finished quilt tops needing quilting and we'll try

for some more quilts that need hand binding. We plan on making drop offs of additional

finished quilts in November. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the meeting.
