Tips on answering novel questions

USE THIS FORMULA - I. M. E. J.

I - IDENTIFY WHAT THE QUESTION WANTS.

M - MAKE A STATEMENT

E - ELABORATE ON THE ANSWERS.

J - JUSTIFY THE ELABORATION BY GIVING TEXTUAL EVIDENCE FROM THE NOVEL.

Example:

 –Write about an incident that changes the life of a character in the story. Give evidence to support your answer.

Identify – 

i. The character - Rudolf Rassendyll

ii. The incident - The first meeting with King Rudolf V, Sapt and Fritz.

  Make a statement – 

An incident that changes the life of Rudolf Rassendyll in the story is when Rassedyll

meets King Rudolf V, Sapt and Fritz for the first time...

  Elaborate - 

Answer the questions - Where, When and What happened?

  Justify -

Answer the question - Why do you say so? Use the evidence from the text

REMEMBER:

The answer should be in the present tense. But if you answered in the past, make sure that all must

be in the past tense/time.

Practice 1

Your Sports Club has added a new item to its list of activities, that is hiking. Based on the information

given, write an ARTICLE to encourage students to take up hiking.

HIKING

• Outdoor activity, sport

• Merely walking, also get near to nature

• The journey is more important than the destination

BENEFITS

• Exercise the whole body – on easy and difficult terrain – can do it in all weather conditions

• Way to explore nature

• Learn about own self – test one’s determination – develop survival skills – ready for greater 

adventure

TIPS

• Requires hiking shoes only as a start; outdoor gears like backpacks when going on difficult hike

Writing the essay

(Introduction) ..outdoor activity…sport…merely walking….also get near to nature…the journey
