Enter the code MÄNGDRABATT when registering. Anaesthesia - basic anaesthesiology, monitoring and measures COURSE DESCRIPTION Two day course in basic anaesthesia for dogs and cats. Day one, participants will receive an introduction in premedication, induction-, and maintanance anaesthesia, and will thereafter be able to feel confident in performing these procedures. Day two, the main focus will be monitoring and measures, and participants will practice evaluating and remediating different situations that can emerge during anaesthesia. Participants will also have practical training in anaesthetic- and monitoring equipment to gain understanding of how these work. One week before the course, participants will receive material for self study, which will be discussed during the course, and there will also be plenty of time to answer all the questions participants may have. TARGET AUDIENCE The target audience is veterinarians and veterinary nurses (teams are more than welcome!) with little or no experience of dog and cat anesthesia. COURSE CONTENTS Presence and focus at work The anaesthesia system - assembling and leak checks Physiology and patophysiology during general anaesthesia Pharmacology Pain and pain modulation Premedication, induction and maintanance of general anaesthesia Basic monitoring - what, how and why? Measures in different adverse situations - what, when, how? Case descriptions Participants will have gained basic knowledge to be able to premedicate, induce and maintain general anaesthesia in dogs and cats, and the confidence to perform the different steps of anaesthetic practice, including monitoring and measures in adverse situations, as well as the use of anaesthesia equipment. LECTURER Carsten Grøndahl, DVM, PhD, Chief Veterinarian at Copenhagen Zoo. Gained a Ph.D. in anaesthesiology and pharmacology, Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University, Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1992. Associate professor in Anaesthesia and Surgery, Clinical Department, Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University, Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1992-1998. Since 1996 Chief Veterinarian at Copenhagen Zoo. Carsten have given numerous post graduate training seminars for veterinary nurses, veterinarians and pharmaceutical technicians in pain modulation, anaesthesia, immobilisation, monitoring and the use of long acting neuroleptics in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Hungary, Italy, Spain, Austria, France and Germany.

Associate professor i anestesi och kirurgi vid kliniska insutitionen på Köpenhamns universitet 1992-1998. Sedan 1996 är han chefsveterinär på Köpenhamns zoo. Carsten har givit en mängd kurser för djursjukskötare, veterinärer och apotekstekniker i smärtbehandling, anestesi, immobilisering, övervakning samt användningen av långtidsverkande neuroleptika i Danmark, Sverige, Norge, Finland, Ungern, Italien, Spanien, Österrike, Frankrike och Tyskland.
