NEYA: Sustainable Refuge will be an ecotourism destination based on the philosophy of Permaculture. As a hotel boutique focusing on ecotourism, it will allow the visitor to experience lodging in a unique way.

Unique about NEYA’s Sustainable Refuge is the fact that it relies on Permaculture theories. Allowing the project to be self-sufficient and entirely sustainable, Permaculture’s three core principles: care for the earth, care for the people, and the return of surplus. Located in Valle de Guadalupe, B.C. Mexico, visitors will not only experience eco-friendly housing, but also enjoy the amazing attributes the land has to offer.

Design Concept: To create a self-sustainable boutique hotel that addresses the issue of environmental awareness through the philosophy of Permaculture, allowing people to be in contact with nature and meet all their needs through what the earth has to offer.

The Parker Residence is a three story row house for pastry chefs, James and Amelie Parker. It is located at 926 E. St. NW, Washington D.C.

The first floor is intended for retail space, featuring “Le Sucre, Cafe & Patisserie”, a French pastry shop.

The second floor is intended for residential space, consisting of public spaces of residence.

The third floor, residential space, consists of residential private spaces.

Design Concept: An open flow throughout the space is vital to taking advantage of as much natural light as possible from both the east and west windows. With this natural light and open design the couple can enjoy baking, cooking, and entertaining guests. Bringing this couple together will be a mixture of contemporary design and antique France. Combining these two motifs will create delicate elegant rooms with a modern energy. The use of delicate fabrics, antique brass, and a golden neutral palette can take anyone back to France’s old-fashioned elegance while thriving in function 21st century contemporary design.

Corazon Bar and Grill is situated in Argentina’s most notable wine region, Mendoza. The bar is located in this part of Argentina in order to promote tourism as well as to bring economic empowerment to the local community.

Corazon consists of two floors, the first floor being shared by the bar and dining area, kitchen and a retail space that sells local goods and produce. The second floor consists of an open bar and private rooms for larger parties.

Corazon Bar and Grill has an environmentally aware design, meeting specific requirements to become LEED Certified.

Design Concept: The heart, the pulse of the body, the beat of the community — this is what “Corazon” represents — a space that embodies the heartbeat of the vineyards and the region. The purpose of the space is to bring the community and wine lovers together — to enrich, be enriched, and enjoy. Showing and empowering people to nourish their community by planting gardens and cooking, whether locally or 3,000 miles away. This space will allow the patrons to enjoy the “heart” of the community and nourish their body and soul.

The Seat. The purpose of this project is to conceptualize and develop a seating structure that will hold the weight of an adult using only one 4’x8’ sheet of cardboard.

The project explores the basic forces that affect three-dimensional structures and consists of three parts: the sub-dominant form (back), dominant form (seat), subordinate form (base).

Four objectives are accomplished in this project: 1. Define volume and mass through the use of planes 2. Use planar construction to achieve structural integrity 3. Develop a basic understanding of pattern construction 4. Understand and address issues of scale.

Wooden Dining Table. Based on the concept “Animal, Mineral, or Vegetable,” a leg and apron type table is designed using mortise and tenon joinery. After analyzing various forms of animal, mineral and vegetable, this wooden table was conceptualized from an Elephant’s tusk.

This table accommodates a minimum of four adults and is intended to be made from solid wood.

Four objectives are accomplished in this project: 1. Understand basic solid wood technology. 2. Design utilizing the characteristic of wood as an organic medium 3. Further exploration of the influence of force on furniture design. 4. Use of drawings as a tool to communicate a concept or idea.
