An old man worked as a night watchman outside a bank. He had to walk around the bank all night, and shouted for help if he saw a thief.. But the old man was very lazy. He didn’t like walking; He liked to lie on his back and sleep, at the same time he wanted everyone to think that he was doing his job.” I know what I can do”, he said to himself “once a week I will get up in the middle of the night and shout, stop thief, stop , help, thief and the police will come, everyone will think that I am a good watchman.

And so this is what he did, for six nights in a week he slept all night, but on the seventh night, he got up and shout,” stop, thief, stop, thief,…! And then he blew his whistle. The police soon showed up at the” crime scene”, “Where is the thief old man?” asked the police,” I scared them away sir”, said the old man. “You are a good and brave watchman “said the police proudly, and then they went away. The people at the bank had also the same idea as the police had; they were very pleased with the old man’s job.

A week later he did the same thing again, and the police came and asked for the same question” where is the thief?” and so did the old man, he answered the same way,” I scared them away officer”.

The same thing happened nearly every week, and the police started wondering, “Could it be true?” finally they decided not to show up no matter what happened.

And so, one quiet night real thieves appeared, and the night watchman saw them, He blew his whistle loudly, and shouted for help, but no police responded his call, Nearly all the money saved in that bank was stolen that night, And as part of his punishment for not doing his job, the old watchman was fired.
