The Brief

Materials
• Not a single training course but a ‘pick and mix’ set of materials for use with a range of people.
• The materials cover the Act, the regulations and the guidance and focus on key changes introduced by the Act
• These are resources, rather than an ‘off the peg’ training pack:
• You can adapt, alter and amend them
• They can be customised for use by a range of organisations
• They can be used with a variety of people who may need to have a different set of skills for implementing the Act

PowerPoint slidesThe basis of the materials are sets of PowerPoint slides that come in three formats
1. For most areas there is a short, overview set of slides that summarise the topic area

3. For all areas there are longer sets of slides that covers the topic area in greater detail, and include facilitators’ notes

Workbooks• Accompany the slides
offering a more detailed discussion and analysis of the statutory guidance
• Include exercises, suggested group discussions, points of reflection and scenarios that facilitators can use when designing a learning programme
• Can also be used by individuals who wish to learn more about a topic area
Links to resources
The workbooks give links to key resources, suggest (linked) handouts that could be used in a learning programme, and consider strategic implications
Other materials
• Glossary – the workbooks identify key words, related to each topic area, and a definition of those is given in the glossary
• Summary sheets – summarise the key ‘must dos’ for each topic area• Animated video – there is an animated video that gives a short
introduction to the Act as a whole• Fact sheets and handouts – handouts that cover more detail of
particular topic areas and/or that could be used in learning programmes• Video clips - people from different organisations talking about how they
think the Care Act may influence them, their organisations and the people they work with

Using the materials

I am going to demonstrate 3 key aspects:
Use for different audiences
You could:
Deliver Introductory training based on the long version of the Introduction and Overview slides. The training event could involve group discussions and exercises taken from the Introduction and overview workbook
Facilitate access to the narrated versions of the slides for Information & Advice, First Contact & Identifying Needs and Care and Support Planning topics. Ask people to watch these and think about some of the reflective questions in the workbooks
Then run a series of ongoing themed workshops where people have the opportunity to discuss the case studies, problem solve and action plan

You could:
Deliver a series of 2 hour sessions (one for each topic). The sessions could consist of a short presentation based on the overview slides followed by detailed discussions about the strategic implications using some of the questions in the workbooks to structure the discussion
Once all the topics had been covered you could hold an action planning workshop that supports strategic managers to consider the implications discussed at the previous sessions and helps them to think through the links and overlaps. You could finish this session by action planning next steps using the action planning template

You could:
Use the narrated version of the Introduction and Overview slides at a provider forum
You could provide further information by compiling a pack of the summary sheets for each topic for providers to take away
You could make them aware of the materials that are available on the website. You could recommend that they work through the workbooks if they wish to develop a deeper understanding of any of the topics
