This week we had our first camp of the year to Dryandra Woodland We had students from years 7 ndash 11 and from both Narrogin and Katanning Senior High Schools Our first activity of the camp was a cultural exploration of the area with Chad Kickett from Narrogin SHS He showed the group a number of different animal tracks pointed out bush tucker and explained some of the natural defences the woodland had to protect itself and the animals from introduced species

Mrs Clark came out to help with dinner and the students enjoyed sharing with her the knowledge they had learnt already After dinner we went to Barna Mia which is a wildlife sanctuary After the sun set and the temperature dropped we were able to see bilbyrsquos malarsquos possums and boodies all of which are endangered or extinct on mainland Australia

In the morning we got onto planning for our futures with a goal setting activity and visit from South Regional TAFE to explore our career options The camp finished with a photo team challenge The students who attended thoroughly enjoyed the camp even though they had no reception for their mobile phones

A thank you goes out to Chad Kickett AEIO at Narrogin SHS and Melissa Berrigan and Tanya Paunic from TAFE for coming out to Dryandra and supporting our Follow the Dream students Jennifer Lawton Follow the Dream Coordinator
