Wear Your Team’s Colours – AFL Football ‘Dress-Up’ Day - Graduation Fundraiser On the last day of term – 5 July, students (and staff) are invited to wear their favourite team’s colours. It will only cost a gold coin donation to do so. All the proceeds will go towards the Year 6 Graduation. Funds raised will help pay for extras for the graduation such as a photo booth and graduation cake. Not a football fan? That’s OK too – you can wear your team’s colours no matter what sport you’re ‘into’. I wonder if there will be any Matilda’s or perhaps Ash Barty fans in the mix! Mr Green Sends a Cheerio Mr Green would love to be at school on 5 July to support his beloved Dockers on our dress-up day. He will certainly be with us in spirit – of that I am sure. Mr Green has had some fabulous news recently – his treatment is proving effective. He is extremely happy of course. Mr Green continues to miss the wonderful Upper Swan Primary School and sends a big ‘Cheerio’ and his very best to all our students and families.

A Brush with Fame – and a Brush with Room 12 Thank you to Room 12 for highlighting the wonderful achievements and richness, refugees add to our magnificent country. Room 12’s presentation of Anh Do’s book The Happiest Refugee was both poignant and clever. Thank you to the students and Ms Ireland for your efforts. Winter Carnival Thank you to our senior students for demonstrating such positive sporting conduct and being the best you could be at the Winter Sports Carnival on Friday 21 June. In addition to the fine sporting behaviour there were some mighty fine achievements too. The AFL Team won their competition. The Modcross and Soccer Teams finished second and the Netball Teams, second and third. Upper Swan finished second overall. Well done students, teachers and supporters. Upper Swan competed against three other schools – Aveley North, Anne Hamersley and Malvern Springs. These are the school we will compete against in Athletics in Term 3. War on Waste on the ABC and here at Upper Swan Last Friday evening I thought I was seeing a duplicate of Upper Swan Primary school on ABC 2. Towards the end of the program a school, focussing on waste reduction, was featured. There were many parallels with our focus here at Upper Swan – waste reduction, mini bins, student ambassadors, class competitions and much more. You may be interested in having a look. This really did highlight Children are the Future. https://iview.abc.net.au/show/war-on-waste/series/1/video/DO1624H004S00 Update from Jack Last newsletter Jack from Room 9 was featured regarding his speech to the City of Swan. Since then Jack has received news that a cul-de-sac will be put in place – thus making the area much safer for Jack and the other young people in the area. Well done on being part of the group who spoke up and ultimately made a difference.

Meet Milo Lucas, Aidan, Kaya-May, Alex and Zoe from Room 1, visited my office to show me Milo the Robot. This group of clever kids worked together to design, construct and program Milo to move around my office. I was particularly impressed with how they were able to describe how they had purposefully added a motion sensor and coded instructions for the robot to respond and stop when there was an obstacle in Milo’s way.

Music Room Upgrade The Music Room upgrade is almost complete. It is looking fresh, clean and attractive – with new floors, carpet, vinyl, ceiling and lights, repairs to walls and fresh paint. Mr Taylor is looking forward to utilising the room in new and innovative ways, inspired by the fresh look. School Development Day – Monday 22 July Classroom and Specialist Teachers along with Education Assistants will be involved in School Development activities on Monday 22 July. Students start Term 3 on Tuesday 23 July.
