ABOUT THE ORGANIZERS
The Japan Foundation for the United Nations University (JFUNU). JFUNU is a nonprofit organization that supports the activities of the UNU, the academic and research body of the UN System. It provides full graduate scholarships to students from developing countries to finish their master's and doctoral studies in the Tokyo-based UNU-IAS. Current scholars of JFUNU includes students from Southeast Asia, Latin America, and Africa. In addition, JFUNU has conducted activities such as excursions, field trips, and company tours to strengthen cultural understanding and appreciation among UNU-IAS’ international students. JFUNU also supports major programs of UNU-IAS such as the annual UNU Global Seminar Japan - Shonan Session.
The United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS). UNU-IAS is a leading research and educational institute with a mission to advance efforts towards a more sustainable future through policy-oriented research and capacity development focused on sustainability and its social, economic, and environmental dimensions. The institute's activities lies within three thematic areas: (1) Sustainable Societies including Education for Sustainable Development, (2) Natural Capital and Biodiversity, and (3) Global Change and Resilience. Other than the master’s and doctoral degrees, the institute also hosts postdoctoral fellowships and innovative short courses, in close collaboration with leading universities in Japan and other countries.
