sho8ed that %a?ority of SLPs that they have sufficient >no8ledge a#out EBP 8hile

J+N #elieve that they are a#le to apply EBP in their professional 8or> Mean8hile/ positive

attitude to8ard EBP 8as identified in a study #y 6ipoli et al involving )* SLPs Si%ilar to the

findings in those researches/ the EBP >no8ledge/ s>ills and attitude of the participants of this

study lean to8ards a perception of ade(uacy in >no8ledge and practice and positive attitudes

A co%parison of the three co%ponents 8as not provided in previous studies In this study

ho8ever/ it 8as seen that EBP attitude is higher than EBP >no8ledge and practice his %ay

suggest that 8hile there is a general positive disposition on EBP/ there are certain li%itations to

>no8ledge and application Su#se(uently/ ne8 insight regarding areas of li%itation 8ere also

gathered in this study Since the ite%s in the EBPC correspond to the steps in the EBP process/ a

co%parison of %ean scores 8ill indicate 8hich steps clinicians %ay have difficulties in

respondents o#tained the lo8est scores in ite%s corresponding to research s>ills such as

converting infor%ation to a research (uestion and critically appraising literature 3n the other

hand/ high scores 8ere o#tained in ite%s related to application of evidence to clinical practice In

a survey conducted #y 6ipoli et al load In the

attitude part of the survey/ the ite% saying that clinicians are a#le to %a>e ti%e for studying ne8

evidence generated the lo8est %ean score 3n the other hand/ the ite% stating that EBP is

funda%ental to professional practice generated the highest %ean score hese infor%ation can

guide future policy changes or progra% and curriculu% develop%ent #y addressing specific areas

of li%itation

Aside fro% the )-ite% Li>ert scale (uestions of the EBPC/ additional data regarding the

respondents >no8ledge and attitudes regarding EBP 8ere o#tained fro% the co%%ents section

of the (uestionnaire So%e co%%ents 8ere regarding the participants epression of interest in

the results of the study/ one epressed personal opinion regarding EBP/ 8hile others re(uested

clarifications !o%%on clarifications 8ere regarding the definition of EBP 3ne as>ed that EBP

speech-language pathologists in the Philippines/ there is no consensus regarding the definition

and nature of EBP and9or that #= these SLPs understanding of EBP %ay #e inconsistent 8ith the

trilateral %odel used #y AS5A and in the develop%ent of the EBPC Fro% these and the other

co%%ents/ it %ay also #e inferred that %ore e%phasis is placed #y the respondents on the

evidence9research co%ponent of the trilateral %odel/ 8hen the three co%ponents of consensus a%ong SLPs regarding its definition is not an entirely

ne8 pheno%enon/ as it 8as reported in a study conducted #y 7hites et al ert scales and the %isconceptions on the definition of EBP a%ong the

respondents In the sa%e study #y 7hites et al/ positive scores for attitudes to8ards EBP 8ere

generated fro% the participants 8hile incorrect and inco%plete definitions 8ere at the sa%e ti%e

produced It re%ains/ ho8ever/ that (uestions regarding the definition used #y the researchers in

this current study 8ere raised only #y t8oa very s%all portion of therespondents
