International Yoga Day

ASE, Bengaluru, observed International Yoga Day in the campus on 21st June 2018. A yoga

session was conducted by Sri. Ruthuparna Sharma, faculty of Human Networking Academy. He

spoke on the significance of Yoga and its practice and guided participants through asanas,

pranayama and meditation. The event was attended by about 80 people that included Director

Br. Dhanraj, Staff and Students from the Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Business.

Cultural Orientation Programme

A day-long Cultural Orientation Programme was held in association with Amrita

Darshanam, Bengaluru on 29th June 2018 for faculty of Amrita School of Engineering. The

programme was in sync with Amma’s vision who believes that spirituality should be the

undercurrent of any system of education. The three sessions of the day provided a valuable glimpse

of the Indian culture and spirituality while bringing awareness of its importance in our education

system.

The day started with Sri Ruthuparna Sharma, Assistant Professor, Jain University,

Bengaluru, guiding the faculty through yoga. Asanas, Pranayama and Dhyana were practiced. The

resource person also gave a brief talk on the importance of yoga and self-awareness.

The yoga session was followed by a talk on 'Essentials of Indian Culture: Importance of arts

in Indian tradition and education' by Shatavadhani Dr. R. Ganesh, a multilingual scholar, a poet

and an Avadhani par excellence. He spoke on the concepts of the four Purusharthas, ashramas and

varna, which constitute the values fundamental to an individual and to the society. He spoke of

Ananda as bedrock of Sanathana Dharma that guides all our pursuits, and showed how Indian

culture is essentially rooted in the realization of this Eternal Joy in our lives. Dr. Ganesh also spoke

on the principles of Sri Krishna and Chanakya and their relevance for today's world. The talk was

followed by an interaction with the faculty, where Dr. Ganesh clarified the questions asked by the

faculty.

In the afternoon, Dr. K. S. Kannan - Sanskrit scholar and former Director of Karnataka

Sanskrit University gave an overview of Indological studies from Indian and Western

perspectives. He touched upon a large number of areas that included comparative linguistics,

grammar, history, mind sciences, philosophy and aesthetics. He also spoke on the distortions of

Indian epics, scriptures and values made by the Western Indologists. Dr. Kannan stressed upon the

importance of pursuing Indic studies and expressed his confidence that the Amrita Vishwa

Vidyapeetham is one of the best places to carry out such research.

Mr. J. Mahesh Babu, Principal Engineer - Research, Ericsson India Global Services Pvt. Ltd.,

Bengaluru and Dr. K. Kanagasundaram, Senior Engineering Manager, Nevis Networks Pvt. Ltd.,

Bengaluru visited CSE department on 5th May 2018 and discussed about the possible research

collaborations on the centralized theme: ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE PLANNING which was

coordinated by Dr. G. Prakash.

A talk by Mr. Deepak Ram on the latest networking Trends was arranged on 11th June 2018. He

interacted with students and explained about emerging technologies and industry ready aspects.

Cisco Academy, conducted a Certification Training programme for Cisco Certified Network Associate

- Routing and Switching for Amrita Bengaluru Students. There were 35 students who have successfully

completed the course. The training lasted for a month during the vacation; the instructors were

Mr. Ullas S. and Mr. Vishwas H. N. The course helped the students to gain fair amount of knowledge in

data communication, network configuration and network devices.

May 2018, during the 5 day FDP program organized by CSE Department of Christ University,

Bengaluru.

was the organizing program chair of two-day “5G Technology Workshop” on 29th and 30th June,

2018 at Mac Sterlings Hotel, Old Madras Road, Bengaluru. He also delivered a talk on “5G

Overview and Challenges in Millimeter Wave Design”. The workshop attracted over 225

participants and 35 speakers including 3 DoT secretaries.

Ms. Shriya Nithyan (S8-ECE), Ms. Sowmya C. (S8-ECE), Ms. Akhila S. (S8-ECE) and Ms. Priya

B. K. presented the project titled, “Design and Implementation of Automatic Miniature Indoor Plant

Cultivator Using Artificial Environment”, at Jyothy Institute of Technology, Bangalore on 19th May

2018. The project was sponsored by KSCST (with amount of Rs. 5000) under the 41st series of SPP.

The hardware prototype of the project was also demonstrated at the time of presentation. The project

has been selected for the state level exhibition to be scheduled from 10th to 11th August 2018.

Faculty Achievements/Participation/Recognition

Arjun Bharadwaj, Assistant Professor, Amrita Darshanam - International Centre for Spiritual

Studies, was invited by the IGNCA and Pondicherry University to present a paper at the National Seminar

on “Dharmashastra: Theory and Practice with Special Reference to the Thirukkural”. He also spoke on the

topic “Vedic Cambodia” in which he traced the historical migration of Indians to South East Asian

countries, and showed how Cambodia is culturally a part of the Greater Indian subcontinent. The seminar

was hosted by the Pondicherry University on 4th and 5th of June 2018.
