CAPITAL REGION COLLABORATIVE

Objective: 1) Provide technical training to those encountering employment barriers that results in an industry credential required for in technical jobs. 2) provide tracking and support.

TRAININGDesign• Short-term, intensive training • Includes project-based learning, job

preparation, job search and placement supports

• Grant-funded – Tuition, fees, books, software and exam vouchers are included

TRAININGOccupational Training Programs

• Network Technician (132 hours)

• IT User Support Specialist (114 hours)

• Health IT & Management Systems Technician (136 hours)

• Cloud Practitioner – currently in development

SCHEDULE/STRUCTURE

• Evenings & Weekends – varies based on track• In-class and online• 14-26 week duration• 144 -170 hours

o Includes 30 hours of workplace readiness training

ELIGIBILITY FOR GRANTCandidates must be: • Residents of Maryland• Unemployed, underemployed, or an incumbent worker

whose employer states requires this training• Possess a high school diploma/GED and/or some college

experience (though may not be currently enrolled at FCC)• Current IT workers or those that have relevant IT work/life

experience and/or possess an aptitude to excel in IT

Veterans of the Armed Services are also highly encouraged to apply.Note: Additional assessment/prerequisites apply based upon training track of interest.

ELIGIBILITY FOR GRANT• Online application- www.Frederick.edu/TechConnect• FCC reviews all submitted applications and resumes• FCC determines initial applicant eligibility based on resume review

and interview• Sufficient score on Accuplacer Basic Computer Skills Proficiency

(CSP) test• Final determination is made

• Accepted for track – complete FCC registration and on-boarding process• Frederick County Workforce Services reviews eligibility for

WIOA support• Attend mandatory program orientation• Agree to participate in accordance with Student Handbook

• Not accepted for track – individual remains in applicant pool for future tracks and/or other services

NETWORK TECHNICIANTraining Details

The Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) curriculum in this program is a gateway to entry-level networking jobs and will prepare you to take the Cisco CCENT (Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician) and CCNA Routing and Switching certification exams to earn the designation CCNA.

Potential career pathways include: network technician, support engineer, network administrator, network designer, network engineer, and more.

NETWORK TECHNICIAN

Prerequisites: CompTIA A+ certification or equivalent experience and high school diploma/GED.

IT USER SUPPORT SPECIALISTTraining Details

Prepare for a career in computer user support by learning how to install and troubleshoot operating systems, configure software applications, install and repair hardware, set up networks, and provide end-user customer support. This program track also prepares you for CompTIA A+ certification and provides two CompTIA A+

certification exam vouchers upon program completion to make it easier to certify.

Potential career pathways include: computer support specialist, computer applications specialist, PC desktop technician, help desk specialist, software trainer.

IT USER SUPPORT SPECIALIST

Prerequisites: High school diploma/GED, basic understanding of computers and navigation in the Windows 10 operating system

Next Class: 9/7/18 – 12/7/18Schedule: Tuesdays 6-9pm and Fridays 9am-4pmLocation: Monroe Center Computer lab

HEALTH IT & MANAGEMENT SYSTEMSTraining Details

Gain the knowledge and skills required to install, manage and troubleshoot IT systems in medical and clinical settings. Learn a broad range of medical terminology, health data requirements/standards, clinical classification and coding systems, and database security required for electronic recordkeeping systems

Potential career pathways include: health information technician, health informatics specialist, medical information officer, health IT security officer, information services support technician, medical records technician, technical support specialist, information technology specialist, medical scribe.

HEALTH IT & MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS

Prerequisites: High school diploma/GED, basic understanding of computers and/or healthcare terminology

Next Class: 8/4/18 – 12/15/18Schedule: Thursdays 6-9pm and Saturdays 9a-4pLocation: Monroe Center

WORKPLACE EXCELLENCETraining Details

A flexible curriculum that offers ten modules designed to help people understand and deliver what employers really want today. Teaches importance of possessing essential workplace skills including good communication, dependability, a positive attitude, and adaptability.Each module teaches the employer’s perspective, practical skills, and the “bottom line” on a key topic so participants can increase their company and career success.
