John awoke, not knowing exactly where he was. Then he remembered that he had

passed out at his desk after writing a treaty to be formed with Nekten. “Nekten”, John said out

loud to himself “a terrorist nation”. It all started about 20 years ago, when John was 4. He

vaguely remembered the president’s address to the nation. “On this, the 10th

anniversary of the

terrorist attacks on the world trade center of New York City, terrorists seek to strike once more.

At 12:40 PM, a bombing of South Dakota and Nebraska were reported. These states are to be

avoided at all costs and treated as a war zone and condemned area.” John had wondered into

another room of his house at this point, and didn’t hear the rest of the speech. He did, however,

remember his mother franticly calling some cousin of theirs who lived in South Dakota. When a

message about the phones being disconnected played, she broke into tears. 2 years later, when

John was 6, he remembered hearing on the news how the new “country” was calling itself

Nekten, and that they had presented a leader known as Jacob Feneral, a reported terrorist

wanted in more than 15 countries.

Shortly after this, they had bombed more than 10 other mid-country states and taken

control of major airports, shipping war materials in, and freedom fighters out. An estimated1,000,000 people had taken refuge in Mexico and the remaining states. By the time John was

12, Nekten had started a full out war, capturing its first Atlantic bordering state, Georgia, and

opening the waters for navy attack ships from enemy nations. They demolished all but the

Eastern and Western coast states. The entire USA basic government collapsed in less than a

month. A rag tag team of political officers tried to hold the rest of the country together for

another few years. Needless to say THAT hadn’t worked. By this time, John was 20 and he

stepped in, devising the Costal divisions. It was simple really, Washington, California and,

Oregon would be ruled by Julia Manela, a strong armed woman who could rule the world if she

could. Also, John Ilona, himself, would rule the remaining 11 states of the East. It would work as

the USA used to, except as a co-presidency. When reports came flooding in last night of

California’s collapse, John had immediately started writing a treaty to prevent them from taking

more land, even though they had broken 10 treaties in the past 2 years alone. Also, Julia, being a

strong 23 year old, fled to Oregon and was awaiting his call. She called him to tell him to stop

trying to make treaties and that she was okay. He’d fallen asleep on the spot. Now, that he was

awake, he realized that there was SO much to do with the coming day, including rewriting maps

and changing routing numbers for checks, changing citizen registration, and, with those

thoughts in mind, John fell asleep again.

At that very same moment, Julia had made her two hundred thirty third call from

Oregon’s Emergency Presidency housing.
