Legionnaires,

It is my honor to serve you as the incoming Commander for the next year at post 276.

We had a great year under the leadership of Commander Schramm, and will continue to support his ideas and legacy in our future endeavors. I would like to acknowledge his commitment and dedication to the post, job well done Commander!

I want to thank everybody involved with the installation of our team. Thank you! We have a great group of individuals who have served as past commanders, officers, and ex-ecutive committee members. All of these folks, bring knowledge, experience, and the leadership that will be an asset to the post as we proceed into the following year!

I would express my gratitude to the American Legion Auxiliary Post 276, for all the ef-forts and long hours during the renovation of the hall! Looks great, job well done! To all the volunteers and other members who gave a hand, a sincere thank you!

We have a lot of projects and fund raising events in the future, and look forward to eve-rybody getting engaged and support our efforts as a Legion, post, and a friend to the community.

Bless our active service members and our veterans!

Yours in service,

M. F. Lowman

First Vice Commander MEMBERSHIP

July 1, 2016 starts the beginning for a new year for the National Organization. On or about the 1st the Na-tional will begin sending 2016 dues notices. Just to let you know we did not make our goal for 2015, we fell 35 short. I am looking forward to a bigger an better year. Remember the job is not a one man job, membership belongs to all Post 276 members. If you can sign up a neighbor or a co-worker, please do so. There is an application located in this newsletter.

Just heard that at the Spring meeting out in Indy the National Executive committee approved a resolution to increase the per-capita dues at the national level from $13.50 to 18.50. So the post membership is looking at a five dollar increase. But first it has to be approved at the National Convention in August and will not take effect until January 20th. So in order to save money, pay your dues early and become an EARLY BIRD.

Also heard that on July 1st the PUFL program will be changing and all future PUFL's will have to be done on-line. Will give you more details in my next newsletter

The next newsletter won't be out until September 1st, so I hope that everyone has a very happy and safe summer vacation.

REMEMBER PAY YOUR DUES EARLY AND SAVE MONEY

Yours in Legion Service

Hello 276 family. We just wanted to drop a line in the Newsletter to say hello and tell you we think of all of you often. “Hof Has Beens,” have been up to spreading cheer in the name of The Ameri-can Legion Post and Unit 276 out here in West Virginia. A local nursing home has several veterans that we visit monthly. We conducted a Memorial Day ceremony remembering fallen soldiers, fallen fire fighters, and fallen law enforcement officers. Many fire fighters, law enforcement officers, the public and our veterans were at the ceremony held at the nursing home…it was awesome! We also honored our WWII veterans as time for them may be short. We wanted to let you all know we are still serving our countries veterans and are happy you are as well. Still as members of 276, we wanted to share with other members how veterans are being impacted by our Post and Unit members even out-side of the Post home. We see the newsletter and keep up to date on Post activities. Together we will continue to serve our veterans, wherever we are. Take care. God bless. Keep serving.

Chaplain’s Corner

As your new Post Chaplain, I would like to first introduce myself. I began my military career by enlisting in the Navy in 1987. I completed the Nuclear Power training pipeline passing through Orlando, FL and Idaho Falls, ID. Following training I was assigned to the USS Haddock (SSN 621). Our home port was San Diego, CA until we de-commissioned in Pearl Harbor, HI. I got out of Navy in 1993, swearing that I would never return. Long story short, I attended the Navy Chaplain School in Newport, RI in 1998. I have been assigned as a chaplain to the 3D Battalion, 25th Marines, Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 26, Naval Support Activity South Potomac, 2D Marine Air Wing, and Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. I am currently serving at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center Be-thesda. I am honored to serve as your Chaplain. A topic near and dear to my heart is the alarming rate of suicide among our nation’s veterans. There is no need to suffer in silence. Unfortunately, too many of us fall between the cracks. If you ever struggle with thoughts of sui-cide or know someone who does the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is 1-800-273-TALK. Also, please feel free to contact me at [email protected].
