Executive Summary
In the second quarter of 2019, private equity funds invested approximately $56 billion across a number of sectors. Companies in the Information Technology and Energy sectors received approximately $37 billion during the second quarter of 2019. Leading the way was information technology companies, which received about $20 billion in investment. While energy focused companies received $17 billion in investment from private equity fund managers. These two sectors represent over half of the investment by private equity fund managers in the second quarter of 2019. Investment in the remaining sectors went as follows, Business Products and Services (B2B) companies received $9 billion in investment while businesses in the Consumer Products and Services (B2C) and Healthcare sectors secured investments of $5 billion and $3 billion, respectively. Financial Services’ companies received nearly $5 billion in investment in the second quarter. And companies in the Materials and Resources sector received $730 million in investment. One of the largest investments of the second quarter was the buyout of Clarios, a manufacturer of automotive batteries, which was purchased for over $13 billion dollars.
