To Our Supporters

Dear Friends:

Since 1999, the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) Chari-table Foundation has assisted in rebuilding the smiles and lives of more than 1,700 adult survivors of domestic and sexual violence. We make this happen through our flagship program, Give Back a Smile (GBAS) and through our educational scholarship program for GBAS recipients enrolled in college.

The AACD Charitable Foundation continues to focus its efforts on restoring more smiles each year. We have also acknowledged that there is a substantial need for more comprehensive dental care for GBAS applicants. In an effort to address this need, the Foundation is now able to provide services via two divisions of Give Back a Smile: 1) smile-zone only restorations 2) full mouth restorations which we call Give Back a Bigger Smile.

Your investment in restoring smiles and lives–makes this all possible. Specifically, financial contributions are used to:

• Manage the application process and connect volunteer dentists with applicants.

• Make certain GBAS patients have sufficient resources to travel to and from their appointments.

• Assist with laboratory costs and specialist fees often required to complete dental treatment.

• Support outreach efforts to increase awareness of GBAS services.

• Provide educational scholarships to eligible GBAS program recipients enrolled in college.

Charitable Impact

GBAS volunteers donated $514,000 in dental services

Provided $10,000 in educational scholarships for 4 GBAS smile recipients

53 smiles restored

63 new program applicants connected with a volunteer dentist

Your donations helped 42 patients with the expenses of traveling to and from their 86 dental appointments

GBAS patients each received an average of $9,700 in smile-restoration services

21 volunteer dental laboratories donated their time and talents to restore smiles

250 domestic violence agencies were informed about GBAS services

When you have an injury that every time you look in the mirror, you’re reminded about that person and that relationship and how low you got in that relationship, is traumatizing every single day. The Give Back a Smile program has transformed my life and now every time I look in the mirror, I really feel confident again. Not only was my smile restored but the whole process was healing and comforting.”

Lisa’s Story“I thought I was a smart, well-educated, successful single mom who had everything going for her. It wasn’t until after looking back, that I realized how the abuse slowly crept up until it ended with one tragic event. I was hit with a gun. I had numerous teeth that were knocked out and damage to others. I’m so glad there are dentists out there that participate in GBAS because there are so many women out there who are in the same circumstance. GBAS didn’t just give me back my smile, it gave me back my life. It gave me the courage and self-esteem that I needed to go back out and be a productive member of society; go back to work, take care of my daughter and just live again. Dr. White is my hero.”

Dental Post Founder and CEO, Tonya Lanthier knows first-hand how it feels to have a broken smile after losing multiple front teeth due to an accident when she was a child. That accident lead her to her passion for and career in dentistry. It’s also why she is such a strong supporter of the Give Back a Smile because she knows the power of a restored smile.

This year marked Dental Post’s 5th annual “Go Jump in the Lab” party. Tonya Lanthier invited a few hundred of her closest friends and colleagues to her lake home and encouraged each and every guest to make a donation to the Give Back a Smile program. We are sincerely grateful for Dental Post’s continued support!
