KS3 Stepping stones The Circle of Life Week commencing 01.02.2021 Classes in each pathway- Woodhouse: Magpie Boston Spa: Pipit and Wagtail All about our projects this term: The Circle of Life project will be delving deep into the world of animal life cycles. The ‘Tadpole’s Promise’ book will be the focus text and you can guide pupils using the Talk for Writing process. During science, we will explore the lives of the human body with the focus of ‘Teeth and Eating’ and ‘Health and Growth’. Immerse the pupils into the topic of teeth and what our mouths can do? By the end of term, we would aim for our pupils to be able to show an awareness of the different elements that make a healthy body and diet. In Humanities, we will be delving deep into the world of the ‘Great Fire of London’ and exploring this through the perspective of a baker in Pudding Lane! Maths (Place Value- Growing 6, 7, 8) English activities Making pairs Have a basket of unsorted socks, clothes or shoes and ask the pupils to help you sort them into pairs. Can they spot which pairs go together? Why do they match? You can use real objects or pictures. *See ‘Sock Pairing Pictures on the school website* Using kitchen items can you pair the forks, knifes, cups and plates? You could extend this to groups of more than 2 when laying the table at mealtimes. Snap and Memory games: Play snap using number cards, Numicon cards and different number representations. Can you pair the same cards first? Then can you match the different representation for numbers to 8. Describing bags:

Create your own bags for each descriptive word. For example, a bag of all slimy items, smooth items, colourful items for the tadpole or caterpillar. Use the symbols to describe each item that you find and compare it to the ‘Tadpoles Promise’ characters that have the same features. *See ‘Character Descriptions’ on the school website*

Adjective banks:

Create a character profile using appropriate adjectives to describe them e.g. slimy, smooth, cold, wet, colourful, fast, bright, beautiful. Use the mind map sheet to collect all your ideas about the character. *See ‘Character Mind Map’ on the school website*

This week, we will be teaching the pupils to begin to recognise a symbol linked to Judaism e.g. the Star of David. Can you name a Star of David by writing or labelling the pictures on the table?Can you print or paint the Star of David and recognise that symbol as a ‘star’ or ‘Star of David’. *See ‘Star of David Worksheets’ on the school website* Challenge: Discuss the meaning behind the Star of David and the links to other parts of Judaism e.g. jewellery, flags, artefacts. PSHE:

This week in PSHE, we will be learning about caring for ourselves and others. Can you collect pictures or write a list of all of things your family needs to give you to be safe and healthy e.g. beds, heaters for warmth, food and water, shower and baths for cleaning, toys and games for fun.

Can you create a mind map of all of the things that you need as a child or teenager that your families provide? Or create your own caring hands pictures using paint and hand printing. *See ‘Giving Care Worksheet’ on school website*

Following the lessons from last week, can you create your own junk modelling house for the fire? Use boxes, cartons and paper to create your Great fire of London houses. You could paint or colour them in with the style of a 17th century house.

In Art, continue to look at Hockney and his artwork. This week we will focus on making our own picture or artwork. This week will involve us making choices so that our work feels like our own. Use the planning sheet, to choose a tool, colour,

techniques and pattern that you would like to use for your final artwork. *See ‘Artwork Planning Sheet’ on the school website*

In Music, we work on making something that makes a sound. Start off with the song from last week. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=92gf8dAlhUwCan you focus on the scrunch sound? Collect materials to make your own scrunching percussion instrument e.g. toilet rolls, kitchen rolls, tin foil, paper, tissue paper, crisps and food packets. Can you play these along to the percussion song above?

day or as much as each individual pupil would manage at home.
