Amazing Race Bella C, Zeb, Luca and Ashton S were selected in the Motupipi team for the Golden Bay Community of Learning Amazing Race The aim of the day was for students to visit all 5 schools, collecting information about each school and capturing this on devices (photo and video). Teams were given a sheet with instructions about what to look for and find out about in each school, and were directed to the next school by collecting clues from the office at each school after capturing as much information as they could. Today the students were editing their footage to compile a short documentary/film about what they’ve found out. Copies of this will be shared across all five schools, and hopefully at a later stage we will be able to share them with the community. The editing was be done at Takaka Primary with Jay Horton from Pheye Creative helping the children to create their documentary. I thought I’d be nervous but I found it really cool interviewing people about their schools. I think practising with Daphne the day before helped. I hadn’t been to the other schools before so it was really interesting. Bella C I liked running around asking questions and trying to find out about the different schools. I met all the Principals of the schools who were all friendly, and saw some of my friends at the High School. I was pretty nervous at the start but the children and adults were good to interview. Zeb I was nervous about interviewing but it got better as the day went on. I liked finding out about the different schools. I did lots of the interviewing. We started at Milnthorpe to find out what to do then went to Central-GBHS-Motupipi-Collingwood-Takaka then back to Milnethorpe to finish. We had to race back to the car after we finished at each school. I liked Central as it was a lot smaller. Luca

Rippa Rugby

Last Friday we took our Rippa Rugby team over to the Nelson /Tasman Schools Rippa Rugby finals, which were made up of the winners of all the local tournaments.

We were the smallest school and had the youngest team but that didn’t deter the children who put in a huge effort in each game.

Our first game was against one of the favourites Richmond Primary and we gave them a big fright matching them try for try with them finally winning 5-3.

We also lost narrowly to Tahunanui, and Henley who made it to the final.

Our win was against Springland School from Blenheim

In our final game against Riwaka we drew 3-3 and in the Golden Try playoff they managed to score first to take the win.

We were really proud of the team who all put in 100% effort and were really supportive of each other.

A huge thanks to Logan and Dan for coaching the children while I was away. Their handling skills and teamwork were certainly much improved.

My Poppa came to watch and I had a big run in front of him. I got ripped and passed to Emma who got ripped and passed back to me and I dived over the line for my first try. Iyla

We had a good tournament against all the top schools in Nelson , Motueka and Blenheim. Our scores were really close in all our games. My favourite was against Springlands which we won 5-4. Emma

Our last game against Riwaka was the most intense because the score see sawed back an forward. They scored on the last play to draw the game and we had to play Golden Try and they scored to win the game. It was really tiring . Lief

How to make a paddle Boat By Angus

What you will need: a bottle, two sticks, one rubber band, a

vivid, and tape and an ice cream container lid.

What to do:

Tape the two sticks to each side of the bottle.

Decorate your bottle with the vivid.

Put the rubber band around each sticking out bit of the

sticks.

Cut out the ice cream lid into a rectangle shape for the paddle.

Put the rectangle paddle into the rubber band and twist it towards you.

Put your boat into the swimming pool and let go.

Room 4 challenge:

Room 4 have issued a technology challenge to the other classes:

They have designed and built paddle boats and tested them in the school pool.

They now know who has the fastest boats in Room 4.

They have made NZ flags to wave at the paddle boat regatta.

Now they are waiting for the other classes to design and build their boats and take
