Amaya Holliday POW #411/9/15Process: For the first problem I got seven as the highest impossible number. I did this by making two columns, possible and impossibles. I knew that one and two wouldn't work because no combinations of three and five go evenly into them. Three obviously works. Four would not work as a possible score because three and five can't make any combination that evenly fit into it. Five would obviously work as well. Six works because three times two multiplies evenly into it. Seven wouldn't work because no combinations of three and five go in evenly. Seven is the last impossible combination because eight and nine would work because three and five combined evenly into them. This combination of three and five works on every number after seven.I examined some other scoring systems such as one and two and three and four. Through these different scoring systems, I found that some scoring systems can have highest impossible scores and some do not have any impossible scores. One or two can divide evenly into anything, resulting in no impossible score. Three and four do have a highest impossible score of five though. ConclusionA. I found out the highest possible score when, five points are for field goals and three are for touchdowns, which makes seven. This is possible because no combination of three and five make seven. Any numbers above seven is either a multiple of five, three or the combination of the two can be added together. I am really confident about my answer and to prove that it works I picked two random numbers, thirty-five and one hundred twenty-four, both 5 and three can go into these point evenly. This works because if you multiply five times seven you get thirty-five and if you multiply five times twenty you get one hundred and then you multiply three times eight resulting in 24. One hundred plus twenty-four equals one hundred twenty-four. This proves that any number above seven can be a possible score.B. A rule I found to find the highest possible score was: that the lower your two scoring points were the lower your highest impossible score will be. Another rule, I found was that you know that the numbers that were smaller than your smallest score point will always be impossible. For example, the point three and five, one and two are impossible because three can't goes into them and obviously neither can five.Extension The Happy Campers soccer team scores their goals a little differently, they count goals that are scored on the left side of the goal as 3 points and goals scored on the right side 1 point. The coach's wants to know if any of the score are impossible. Please find the highest impossible score the Happy Campers can score. Evaluation I think all POWs are worthwhile because they make me think in a different way than regular homework. I don't think I learned a lot content wise, but it is teaching me perseverance. I would make this POW smaller or take away one of the questions. I always enjoy working on POWs because I like that it is like a puzzle opposed to a work sheet. I think this POW was the hardest POW we have ever done just because I had some trouble understanding the questions.
