Design ConceptRuffin Hall, the University of Virginia’s Studio Art building, is all part of the
school’s plan to “strengthen its art program”. The purpose of the building’s design was to bridge the gap between the industrial “Arts
Common” and its residential surroundings, such as the fraternity houses across the street.
The “Arts Common” also includes Campbell Hall School of Architecture and Fiske Kimball Fine Arts Library (which are to Ruffin’s west), and the
Drama building. This new area of the school will also have a new performing arts center and library.
