I am proud, excited, and honored to introduce myself as the new Executive Director of The Health Center. It was such a rewarding

experience to work the Stan Led-ington and The Health Center staff during my Centers for Disease Con-trol and Prevention field assignment from 2014 to 2016, that I’m thrilled to be back with The Health Center in my new capacity.

Let me start off by saying thank you. Thank you for making 2017 another re-markable year for our students. What a year it’s been! Our passionate and dedi-cated staff and board poured their hearts into our biggest expansion yet – our new clinic at Walla Walla High School. Now our services are available in four schools, which allows us to meet the needs of more than 3,300 students in Walla Walla.

This past year, our volunteers logged over 1,477 hours, our Board of Directors has helped increase our donor base, and to date, we have helped over 13,000 stu-dents since our inception in 2009. That’s pretty incredible!

In this next year, we look forward to building on our nine years of serving lo-cal students by deepening and strength-ening our relationships with the schools, communities, and the students we serve. We will increase communication inside our schools. We will add more options

for students to en-gage with our staff in very intentional ways. And we will develop new part-nerships in our community while strengthening the bonds that are al-ready there.

And we’re trying something new! On September 15, we will have our first con-cert to benefit The Health Center. Kate and the Crocodiles will perform at the Gesa Powerhouse Theatre with proceeds going directly to The Health Center.

Did you know that $50 is enough to fund one hour of counseling for one of our students? Let’s see just how much of a dif-ference we can make in the lives of kids in our community by funding more of these services like these.

Eight years after opening our first clinic, we were able to pull off one of our biggest expansions yet by opening a brand new clinic at Walla Walla High School.

We saw an urgent need to reach more students and jumped on it.

It’s been an incredible year of learn-ing, adapting, and responding to the health needs of our students there. Most importantly, it’s been a year of success-ful relationships built with students and staff at Wa-Hi.

What we learnedThe need for mental health services for our high school students exceeded our expec-tations. In the first four months alone, we saw more than 280 mental health visits. And things didn’t slow down from there.

How we’re responding

For the 2018-19 school year, we’ll be add-ing more counselors and specific support groups. It will also be easier for students to access The Health Center services mov-ing forward. Instead of relying on referrals from staff, the clinic will accept walk-ins.
