Introduction
Edexcel BTEC Level 1 Qualifications in Health and Social Care
These new qualifications have been developed in collaboration with
the Sector Skills Council - Skills for Care and Development and in
consultation with employers and training providers.
They introduce learners to employment within the Health and Social
Care sector.
They cover the latest industry requirements.

5 new Level 1 qualifications have been developed in collaboration with Skills for Care and Development
3 qualifications have been developed for England only
2 qualifications have been developed for Wales and Northern Ireland
The qualifications have been developed with a pre-employment focus
Each qualification contains mandatory units
All units are at Level 1.

The current Section 96 interim arrangements mean that no new vocational qualifications can be approved for pre-16 learners until the DfE have completed their consultation on the new performance measures. We expect to be able to offer these qualifications to pre-16 learners early in 2012 when the new criteria are known.

6 Learners must achieve 6 credits from the mandatory units in group A
Edexcel BTEC Level 1 Award in Introduction to Health and Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s Settings
10 Learners must achieve a minimum of 10 credits. 6 Credits must be taken from mandatory group A and a minimum of 4 credits must be taken from optional group B
Edexcel BTEC Level 1 Certificate in Introduction to Health and Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s Settings
25 Learners must achieve a minimum of 25 credits. 20 credits must be taken from mandatory group A and a minimum of 5 credits must be taken from optional group B

• Centres can choose to continue delivery of current versions until 31st August 2012• New versions are available from 1st September 2011• The new versions are PASS only• There is no Diploma available in the new specifications• The specifications include detailed mapping for assessment of Functional Skills• New Units and content are now available on the website• Resources available, will be activity based, rather than textbooks.
