11 o’clock in the Morning

The Welcome William W. Taylor, Headmaster

¨ The Entrance Anthems The Chapel bell tolls, and the Chaplain begins. I am the resurrection and the life, saith the Lord; he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live; and whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. I know that my Redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth; and though this body be destroyed, yet shall I see God; whom I shall see for myself and mine eyes shall behold, and not as a stranger. For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself. For if we live, we live unto the Lord. and if we die, we die unto the Lord. Whether we live, therefore, or die, we are the Lord's. Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord; even so saith the Spirit, for they rest from their labors. The Collect Please remain standing. Chaplain: The Lord be with you. People: And also with you. Chaplain: Let us pray. O God, whose mercies cannot be numbered: Accept our prayers on behalf of your servants, beloved of Trinity-Pawling, who, having finished their course in faith, now find rest from their labors, and grant them, we beseech you, entrance into the land of light and joy, in the fellowship of your saints; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, on God, now and for ever. Amen. The Liturgy of the Word The First Lesson AJ McHugh '95

A Reading from Ecclesiasticus (44:1–10, 13–14) Let us now sing the praises of famous men, our ancestors in their generations. The Lord apportioned to them great glory, his majesty from the beginning. There were those who ruled in their kingdoms, and made a name for themselves by their valor; those who gave counsel because they were intelligent; those who spoke in prophetic oracles; those who led the people by their counsels and by their knowledge of the people’s lore; they were wise in their words of instruction; those who composed musical tunes, or put verses in writing; rich men endowed with resources, living peacefully in their homes—all these were honored in their generations, and were the pride of their times. Some of them have left behind a name, so that others declare their praise. But of others there is no memory; they have perished as though they had never existed; they have become as though they had never been born, they and their children after them. But these also were godly men, whose righteous deeds have not been forgotten. Their offspring will continue for ever, and their glory will never be blotted out. Their bodies are buried in peace, but their name lives on generation after generation. Here ends the Lesson. The Psalter Psalm 23 Abigail Lennox, Soprano 1 The LORD is my shepherd;

I shall not want. 2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures;

he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul; he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his Name’s sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil;

for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me. 5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies;

thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever. The Second Lesson David Foster '70 A Reading from John (14:1–6) Jesus said, “Let not your hearts be troubled; believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And when I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way where I am going.” Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going; how can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but by me.” Here ends the Lesson.

Chaplain and People

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
