Two thumbs up for Richard Davis In an article on The Daily Finance called "This Is One Incredible CEO," Sean Williams shows the things Richard has done, but also the things he "hasn’t" done to lead U.S. Bancorp to exceptional results. Williams is known for pointing out CEO faux pas, but his readers asked for something positive: enter U.S. Bancorp Chairman, President and CEO Richard Davis, and our company. U.S. Bank donates $100,000 to Portland Public Schools’ Early Learners Academy The Early Learners Academy in northwest Portland offers educational programming for preschoolers in an area with limited options for families with young children. The donation comes at a time when the Portland Public School District, like others across the state, faces a significant gap between its operating budget and its ability to maintain current service levels.

U.S. Bank tops the charts Money magazine has named U.S. Bank the best national bank in America for our basic checking and savings, student checking and senior checking accounts. The "Best Banks in America" story is in the October 2012 issue of Money magazine. Money credited U.S. Bank’s broad retail banking network—fourth-largest in the country—combined with how easy it is for U.S. Bank customers to waive the monthly maintenance fee. U.S. Bank also topped Money’s charts for student and senior checking. Read the full press release on usbank.com.

Pam Joseph and WLA help African girls American Banker profiled Vice Chairman of Payments Pam Joseph for extending her passion for developing others beyond the reach of traditional mentoring programs. Under Pam's leadership, a group of Payments industry employees called WLA (Women Leaders in Action) have raised $400,000 to help schools in rural Africa and other philanthropic causes. Several of the women have traveled to Kenya and seen firsthand the impact of their efforts. Read the full story on American Banker's website.

Central Banker Alumni Reunion On Aug. 31, 2012, the former Central Banker Alumni Group reunited at El Senor Sol, aka Zang's Brewery. Helen Loehr and Jim Archuleta did an outstanding job organizing the event, ensuring a good time was had by all. It had been eleven years since the Central Bankers last met, and Zang’s was exactly the same. The social hour provided plenty of time to get reacquainted and reminisce and everyone raved about the food. U.S. Bank Alumni reusable bags and visors were a big hit. Jan Palmquist and Bill Tumelty came from California to enjoy the reunion—Jan even changed her vacation plans so as not to miss the event. Helen and Jim have handed over the Central Bankers reunion torch to Jan Palmquist and Erick Anderson to plan the next reunion. Thanks again to Helen and Jim for the continued success of this group of Central Banker friends.

Betsy Adams was the "official photographer" and got some great pictures of everyone having a fun time!

Dona Casey Hagaman and Helen Loeh having a wonderful time catching up.

Alumni Eric Andersen, Bill Tumelty, Marvin Becker and Jim Phelps love their environmentally friendly U.S. Bank Alumni bags!

Tom Malone was honored at the Denver Alumni Event on June 20, 2012. He started his 29-year banking career in 1968 at Colorado National Bank in the credit card division. At the time, it was the fastest growing business line in banking. Tom recalls boxes and boxes of sales drafts stored in the upper floors above his office. As the credit card expert, it was no surprise when he was promoted to manager of the department. Tom’s career continued to flourish as he went on to various leadership roles including assistant vice president of family banking, preferred banking, special assets and mortgage. He credits his success to the incredible people he worked with. He’s proud that he had the opportunity to bring so many successful hires to U.S. Bank and mentor them along the way. Tom treasures memories of his team of more than 30 employees and close friends from the bank, so it was only natural that he would help initiate the CNB Reunion club that meets once a year. Tom and his wife Dot celebrated 49 years of marriage this September and are very proud of their three daughters and six grandchildren. Dot and Tom love to travel, enjoying three weeks every year in Hawaii. These days we can find Tom volunteering at his church, assisting families in need. He’s active in the Kiwanis Club and served as president and lieutenant governor, making a difference in our communities and receiving several awards for his service.

Bridget Fisher was nominated by her former colleagues to be recognized as one of our outstanding alumni. Her 32-year career started at Colorado National Bank in 1968 when her father, president of Denver National Bank, passed the banking torch to her. Bridget loved her first position as a teller at the Champa branch. A role model for outstanding customer service, it didn’t take long for Dale Browning, president of Colorado National Bank, to recommend her for the credit management training program. Bridget attended college in the evenings, adding accounting and business classes to her liberal arts degree. She advanced to the role of vice president of loan administration which included the credit and collateral departments, and still treasures memories of her team. A trail blazer in Private Banking that paved the way for women in banking, she built a large portfolio of customers. She takes great pride in mentoring so many former colleagues over the years. Today, Bridget has embraced retirement. She is past president of the Park People and currently is a member of the executive committee – working to preserve, enhance and advocate for Denver’s parks, recreational resources, open space and urban forest. She also volunteers at the Gates Tennis Center, providing tennis opportunities to anyone with the desire to play. Bridget is very proud of her two sons and five grandchildren. She loves to travel and has many fond memories of trips which include bicycling through Europe. She loves to garden and enjoys her flowers and early morning walks. She encourages U.S. Bank Alumni to stay in touch with each other – we are a “special” family.

Tom, we are proud to call you a U.S. Bank alumnus. We promise to take good care of this incredible legacy you have left us.

Thank you, Bridget, for your years of dedication, loyalty and service.

The latest results are in…and we ranked #35 on the list! Point values were assigned to each response, with the highest accorded to Highly Respect. A mean score was also tabulated for each company. Employees getting green with US U.S. Bank has about 30 green teams that initiate local projects and activities for employees. Some projects focus on ways to conserve resources within the business line, while others focus more on helping out in the community or educating employees on how to live a greener lifestyle. These teams have been excellent partners for Environmental Affairs in carrying out U.S. Bank's green initiative. Examples of projects include:

Cleaning up trash through the Adopt-a-Highway program and other community beautification efforts.

Collecting items for tornado victims and local schools.

Establishing recycling efforts at U.S. Bank buildings where recycling is not available.
