Flushjoint Contemporary Rainwater Pipe Systems
IntroductionFlushjoint is a range of circular andrectangular pipes with flush spigotjoints between pipes and fittings.
The Flushjoint rainwater downpipesystem has high impact resistance. The material hardness and fixingmechanisms give excellent rigidity.
FeaturesFlushjoint is a heavy grade extrudedrainwater pipe system, complementedby a full range of fittings andbracketry.
Flushjoint is available in four standardpipe diameters and three alternativesquare/rectangular sections.

Flushjoint pipework may be used inconjunction with any gutter systemfrom the Contemporary range, providing the girth of the gutter issufficient to accommodate the crosssectioned area of the pipe. Runningoutlets are made to order according tochoice of gutter and individual projectrequirements.
The Flushjoint system is built from thegutter downwards starting with theoffsets and bends. The system usesoffset brackets, pipes or small basebrackets to secure pipework with theminimum of visual intrusion.
The systems and components howeverare not designed for use inunderground drainage or as partof a soil or waste system.

Installation
InstallationFlushjoint is a ‘clean line’ rainwaterpipe system which installs from theeaves downwards.
Procedure
1 Pipes and fittings are supplied withfactory welded internal spigots.(Figure 1.)
2 The topmost pipe or offset isconnected to the gutter spigot, andsubsequent lengths of pipe are thenslid over the spigot at the bottom ofthe preceding pipe. (Figure 2A and 2B.)
3 Apply a bead of low modulus, DOW791, silicone sealant around thespigot at each joint, prior to slidingthe two pipes together. (Figure 2A/1 and 2B/1.)
4 As the stack is progressively placedin position, each Flushjoint pipe is fixed back to the wall using astandard pipe clip, a small base or an extended base, which is slidinto place over the pipe prior topositioning the pipe beneath.(Figure 3A and 3B.)
5 For a completely clean joint line thepipe clip or bracket can bepositioned over the pipe joint whenfixing back to the wall. (Figure 3A/1 and 3B/1.)
6 Pipe clips and brackets should befixed to the wall using No. 12 x 50mm round head twin threadscrews, into plugs with a washerbeneath the screw head.

The Alumasc RainwaterDrainage Design ServiceAlumasc Technical Services can calculatethe most appropriate system of guttersand downpipes for all of the rainwatersystems that are offered.
Using dedicated design software inconjunction with the requirements of BSEN 12056:2000: Gravity drainage systemsinside buildings – Part 3 calculation of themost efficient drainage set up takes intoconsideration the following criteria:
n Catchment area
n Local rainfall intensity
n Building life and safety factor
n Size and flow rate of gutters
n Frequency and size of outlets anddownpipes
The gutter flow software, used byAlumasc automatically checks thecapacity of downpipes used and suggeststhe minimum size to which down pipescan be sized.

All Alumasc aluminium rainwaterproducts can be supplied in plain finishor in the Raincote range of factoryapplied polyester powder coatings.
The standard range comprises the 16colours illustrated right, chosen tocomplement both traditional andcontemporary building styles andmaterials. Other colours with a BS orRAL number can be supplied to specialorder. Consult Alumasc TechnicalServices for further details.
Raincote complies with BS 6496: 1984Specification for powder organiccoatings for application and stoving toaluminium alloy extrusions, sheet andpreformed sections for externalarchitectural purposes, and for finishon aluminium alloy extrusions, sheetand preformed sections coated withpowder organic coatings.
The aluminium undergoes a series ofpre-treatments to provide the perfectlyprepared surface to receive an electro-statically applied polyester powder inthe chosen colour. This is then ‘baked’and bonded to the fitting in a carefullycontrolled oven; the complete processis achieved on a continuous line toobtain the best results. Alumasc holdsBritish Board of Agrément CertificationNo. 86/1671 for a range of polyestercolours which is being constantlyreviewed and extended. Theperformance greatly exceeds that ofsite painting.
